Sarchu (altitude 14070 feet) is located on the borders of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.It is a major halting point for travellers on the spectacular Manali-Leh highway.
The approx.490 kms long Manali-Leh highway connects Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh to Leh in the state of Jammu & Kashmir in India.This highway is open for only about 4-5 months of the year from May-June till around mid-October.The average elevation of the highway is over 13000 feet and the highest elevation is at Tanglang la Pass (17480 feet).The highway passes through some spectacular mountain scenery and one can see some amazing rock and sand formations along the way.

Sarchu is an important halting point between Manali and Leh and is approximately equidistant from both these places.It is situated on the borders of the states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.The scenery is bleak but awe-inspiring.It is at an altitude of 14070 feet and there is shortage of oxygen due to the high altitude and lack of vegetation.We spent a night here on the way to Leh and I could not sleep the whole night due to headache and nausea.It was one of the toughest places we have ever halted on a journey.
Coffs Harbour is a city on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, 540 km (340 mi) north of Sydney, and 390 km (240 mi) south of Brisbane. It is one of the largest urban centres on the North Coast, with a population of 78,759 as per 2021 census. The Gumbaynggirr are the original people of the Coffs Harbour region. Coffs Harbour is also accessible by road, by NSW TrainLink, and by regular bus services.
Muttonbird Island is a great spot for watching birds up close; it’s one of the only easily-accessible places in NSW where the migratory wedge-tailed shearwater nests. It is also an important Aboriginal place, harbouring stories of the Dreaming and a wealth of traditional resources. R_14070
Im schönsten Nachmittagslicht des 28.10.2014 ist 218 474 als RE 14070 auf dem Weg von Bad Harzburg nach Hannover Hbf und hat soeben den kleinen Ort Hockeln an der KBS 320 passiert.

I have been silent for a month, my apologies for not able to visit your pictures and reply emails. I was traveling to India. This was one of my dream trips to 19000 feet . It's Leh Ladakh in India.
Captured this after reaching Sarchu camp, at 14070 feet in Himalayas.
The road was treacherous, wife and the kids lost all energy, my elder son came out and joind me for a walk in the heavenly place.
Sometimes you get confused if every angle is a picture postcard, well !! you know what I mean.....
Tried to capture the majestic mountains and human efforts to see the place.

This was one of my dream trips to 19000 feet . It's Leh Ladakh in India.
This was captured towards our trip to Leh, we stopped at Sarchu camp. Everywhere the word "Julley" was written, upon enquiry I found that it means "Hello" in Leh.
This shot was taken joust outside our Golddrop fixed camp,
The day was cloudy and gusty cold wind was blowing.
I decided to use a bit long exposure to capture the moving clouds.

My grand Scandinavian Aviation Tour 1982
A beautiful sight - one of the remaining DC-3s (or C-47s) that the Ilmavoimat were still flying in 1982 - this one had been reserved for preservation at the time. I was fortunate to see all the remaining flyers - DO-7, DO-8 & DO-12 plus C-53s DO-9 & DO-11 as well as retired DC-2s DO-1 & DO-2 :)
In the background is PR-2 Percival P.66 Pembroke C.53 which was awaiting restoration.
After taking the night ferry from Sweden, we arrived at Turku on the morning of 3rd June, and after a bit of sightseeing we went to visit my first Finnish airport/airfield at Turku Åbo. Like many of those we visited, the civil and military operated side-by-side.
On the second day of our 'grand tour' we visited Tampere and Jyväskylä. Near to the latter's airport, in Tikkakoski, is the Finnish Air Force Museum which has an impressive collection of aircraft both old and new. See: airforcemuseum.fi
DO-4 c/n 14070 - Douglas DC-3 (C-47A-30-DK) was built for the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) and delivered to the 9th AF in Jul 1944 as 43-48254. After the war, the aircraft passed to the FLC Foreign Liquidation Commission (which was designated as the disposal agency for all surplus property located in foreign areas after World War II]) and in Oct 1947 it was sold to Aero OY Finnish Air Lines (Finnair) as OH- LCF and named 'Kyytipoika'. After over twelve years of civilian service, in Mar 1960, the aircraft transferred to the Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force) as DO-4. In 1982, just when I took my shot, the aircraft had beed withdrawn from service and was waiting to join the preserved aircraft at the Finnish Air Force Museum (Suomen Ilmavoimamuseo).
The Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner which had a lasting effect on the airline industry in the 1930s/1940s and World War II. It was developed as a larger, improved 14-bed sleeper version of the Douglas DC-2. The DC-3 has a cruise speed of 207 mph (333 km/h), a capacity of 21 to 32 passengers or 6,000 lbs (2,700 kg) of cargo, and a range of 1,500 mi (2,400 km), and can operate from short runways.
The DC-3 had many exceptional qualities compared to previous aircraft. It was fast, had a good range, was more reliable, and carried passengers in greater comfort. Before the war, it pioneered many air travel routes, and it was able to cross the continental US from New York to Los Angeles in 18 hours and with only 3 stops.
Following the war, the airliner market was flooded with surplus transport aircraft and the DC-3 was no longer competitive due to its size and speed. It was made obsolete on main routes by more advanced types such as the Douglas DC-4 and Lockheed Constellation, but the design proved adaptable and useful on less glamorous routes.
Civil DC-3 production ended in 1942 at 607 aircraft. Military versions, including the C-47 Skytrain (the Dakota in British RAF service), and Soviet- and Japanese-built versions, brought total production to over 16,000.
Production was as follows:
607 civil variants of the DC-3;
10,048 military C-47 and C-53 derivatives built at Santa Monica, California, Long Beach, California, and Oklahoma City;
4,937 built under license in the Soviet Union (1939–1950) as the Lisunov Li-2 (NATO reporting name: Cab);
487 Mitsubishi Kinsei-engined aircraft built by Showa and Nakajima in Japan (1939–1945), as the L2D Type 0 transport (Allied codename Tabby).
Many DC-3s continue to see service in a variety of niche roles, even in the 21st Century. In 2013, it was estimated that 2,000 DC-3s and military derivatives were still flying!

My grand Scandinavian Aviation Tour 1982
After making four successful tours of Northern Europe, in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981, made primarily to visit some of the major airports to feed my need to see 'exotic' aircraft, but also to take in the experience of travel abroad, I was lucky to take part in my most interesting and adventurous tour in 1982 - to Scandinavia! Inspired by my long-term affinity with the region (being 6' 2" and blonde I am obviously descended from the Vikings :) I planned the trip to take in the following countries: Norway, Sweden and Finland. For some reason, I couldn't engineer Denmark into my two-week itinerary! The main goal for me was to explore some of Finland, and in particular, to at least see the border with Russia a.k.a. the U.S.S.R. :)
As Finland was the most interesting country of the three for me, I engineered quite a long visit to the country [six days] and managed to visit six of the nine military airfields located in the southern part of the country:
1) Helsinki-Malmi
2) Utti
3) Turku-Abo (shared civil airport)
4) Tampere-Pirkkala
5) Jyväskylä-Luonetjarvi (shared civil airport)
6) Kuopio-Rissala
as well as
7) Helsinki-Vantaa (shared civil airport)
Jyväskylä Airport is an airport in Jyväskylä, Finland. It is located in the center of the Finnish Lake District approximately 20 km north of the centre of Jyväskylä. The Air Force Academy Flight School and the Air Force Academy Supporting Air Operations Wing are stationed at the airport. The main campus of the Air Force Academy is about 5km from the airport. The Finnish Air Force Museum (Aviation Museum of Central Finland) is located near the airport.

The museum exhibits the aviation history of Finland, from the early 1900s until today. My wife and kids became sick due to altitude. I put them in the camp and then headed out before the Sun sets. It was deafening silence everywhere, I can only hear my breath, it was so peaceful I cannot explain, even though I had no energy left, still I decided to stand and take a picture .

The café remains for now. Seeing how big the space is, I hope they keep it during the inevitable remodel though It's very unlikely. I was talking to a cashier during my visit and she mentioned how the café is hardly ever open anymore and that there is an electrical problem in the café and thousands of dollars worth of food went to waste as a result of it, and that electrical problem likely won't be fixed until the remodel, and no one knows when that is.

Introduced on Nov 21, 2009, which is completed 6 years of service and having some weird type of loco management system. I hereby wish a Happy Birthday to this Aggressive Diesel Train. Seen here is orange colored, Ex. Erode, Vatva (VTA) WDM-3A # 18619 along with Dead Vatva (VTA) WDM-3A # 14070 climbing the small gradient at Umroli with one of the aggressive Diesel train, 19066 Bhagat Ki Kothi - Bandra Express. The rear dead loco brings this Bhagat Ki Kothi Express till Ahmedabad and then gets shut down. Another Diesel loco takes charge from front and brings this train to Bandra. The dead loco then gets detached from this train and gets attached to rear of Electric Locomotive which is taking charge of 19017 Saurashtra Janta Express in evening. Later electric locomotive gets detached from this Saurashtra Janta Express at Ahmedabad and rear dead diesel locomotive turns live and takes charge of it till Jamnagar. The front leading loco reverses with entire rake as 19049 Bandra Terminus - Patna Express on Monday afternoon. Date & Time: 25-Oct-15, 11:21 AM

Baddeckenstedt is een plaats die nog regelmatig voorbij zal komen in mijn photostream. Het leeuwendeel van mijn DB Regio platen in de Harz heb ik gemaakt in dit dorpje. Rechts op deze foto kun je nog een restant zien van het ooit grote emplacement van Baddeckenstedt. Je kunt er tegenwoordig weinig meer van zien, maar ooit stond er tegenover het station een grote suikerfabriek met dito spoorvervoer. De suikerfabriek is verdwenen net als de goederenbundel, maar de twee seinhuizen bleven over.
DB Regio 218 451 is net met zijn stammetje n-wagens vertrokken uit het station van Baddeckenstedt en passeert als RE14070 naar Hannover het tweede en kleinere seinhuis van Baddeckenstedt.
