Union Pacific Railroad SDP35 1401 at Council Bluffs, Iowa on October 31, 1965, Kodachrome by Lou Schmitz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 1401 was built in September 1965 ( c/n 30672 ) on EMD Order 7824, one of ten SDP35's ordered by the UP, originally to be numbered in the 980-989 series just above the E-units. They lasted until June 1980, when they were put in storage until retirement in 1985. This unit was scrapped by Saint Louis Auto Shredding in December 1985.
I began designing this model in November of 2018, and I'm proud to announce that, finally, after months of building and rebuilding, testing and retesting, my Southern #1401 replica is complete and in flawless operating condition!

Hoarfrost glitters on the frozen prairie. This mini-wetland, where a perpetual spring feeds a small stretch of marshy bottomland, has been incredibly productive for me. Wildlife in spring and summer, amazing special effects in winter.
