In the latter 1970’s Cardiff Canton out stationed at Barry two Class 08 pilots. One of these on the 15th April 1978 was 08195 and it is stabled at the old steam shed, now in use as a stabling point and wagon repair depot

Locomotive History

08195 was originally 13265 and became D3265 in the 1957 renumbering scheme. It was built at Derby Works and entered traffic in September 1956, allocated to Duffryn Yard MPD. Three months later it transferred to Neath followed by Cardiff East Dock in August 1962 and Cardiff Cathays in November 1964. When Cathays closed in November 1964 it transferred to Cardiff Canton where it remained until withdrawn in August 1983. After being dumped at Swindon Works it was purchased for preservation by the Llangollen Railway departing during March 1986.

Class 08 shunter 13265 was at Llangollen to shunt the observation saloon - there is limited space within the station/ head-shunt and the 08 came in very handy.

13265 is seen outside the main shed at the Llangollen Railway. This was the main reason for my visit as it was needed to photograph. A big thanks to the staff who escorted me round to get these shots, as the main shed is out of bounds.

Class 08 0-6-0 diesel shunter 13265 (08 195) is waiting for traffic to clear in Llangollen station before starting brake van trips around the Llangollen Railway engine sheds.

Blocking its path are a Birmingham RC&W DMU and a train headed by Class 37 6940.

Phulera Junction on Tuesday 31st October 2006: YDM4 #6650 has just arrived with train 163, the 09:30 Rewari Jn - Ajmer Jn Passenger as Vatva Shakti WDG3A #13265 stands with a sizeable freight.

The friendly driver had just given us a cabride from Ringas Junction.
