Field trip with participants to Naivasha, Kenya. The goal was to visit a local projet led by the WWF initiated to resolve a conflict over the water management of Lake Navaisha between several actors.
The Postcard
A postcard bearing no publisher's name that was posted in Worthing using a 2½d. stamp on Wednesday the 19th. July 1961. The card was sent to:
Mr. & Mrs. H. Head,
118, Victoria Avenue,
Ore,
Hastings,
Sussex.
The message on the divided back of the card was as follows:
"Worthing,
Burlington Hotel.
Our second week here.
We have quite enjoyed
our holiday in spite of
gales.
The weather is just
lovely now.
Joan is here with me.
We had Pat and Gerald
down for the day last
Saturday.
We would like to come
and see you tomorrow
afternoon. If it's not
convenient please ring.
Love Louie."
The Burlington is still going strong to this day.
The Bizerte Crisis
So what else happened on the day that Louie posted the card?
Well, on the 19th. July 1961, the Bizerte Crisis began when Tunisia sent troops to surround France's naval base at Bizerte, beginning a standoff between the two nations.
The demonstration started out peacefully until 2:15 p.m., when ground forces fired at a French Army helicopter flying supplies into the base.
France responded by bombing and strafing the Tunisian positions as the two sides exchanged gunfire.
Two days later, France attacked the city of Bizerte. French losses were 13 dead and 35 wounded. The Tunisians suffered 670 dead and 1,555 wounded.
The Crash of a DC-6
Also on that day, all 67 people on Aerolíneas Argentinas Flight 644 were killed after the DC-6 departed from Buenos Aires to a destination of Comodoro Rivadavia.
The plane had been attempting to make an emergency landing at Azul and burst into flames after crashing near Chachari.
In-Flight Movies
Also on the 19th. July 1961, the first regularly scheduled in-flight movie service began, as a TWA flight from New York to Los Angeles showed By Love Possessed to its first-class passengers.
Hjalmar Gullberg
The day also marked the death at the age of 63 of the Swedish poet Hjalmar Gullberg.
A 1933 poem by Gullberg called "Förklädd Gud" ("God in Disguise"), was set to music by the composer Lars-Erik Larsson in 1940.
The resulting lyrical suite has become one of the most well-recognised and best loved pieces of Swedish music for choir and orchestra.
During his final years Gullberg suffered from myasthenia gravis, which resulted in him being bed-bound. He had also been tracheotomized, and was for long periods of time connected to a ventilator.
He committed suicide on the 19th. July 1961 by drowning in Lake Yddingen in Scania.

Rock In Idrho è una garanzia quando si parla di musica live in Italia, infatti oltre ad aver portato nel nostro paese alcune delle più importanti band del mondo, è stato spesso trampolino di lancio per le nuove leve del panorama rock internazionale.
Due giorni indimenticabili di musica e divertimento che tingeranno di rock Milano il 13 giugno al Carroponte di Sesto San Giovanni (attenzione capienza limitata, consigliamo l’acquisto in prevendita!) e il 21 luglio all’Arena Rho Fiera che verrà configurata ad hoc per ospitare la nuova edizione del festival.
La band capitanata da Joey Cape è tra le più importanti in ambito skate punk/hardcore melodico. Per celebrare i vent’anni di attività è stato appena rilasciato un Box-Set speciale lo scorso novembre, che ripercorre tutta la fortunata carriera dei Lagwagon.
