This Ford Model T (chassis number 122612) is believed to have been built in Trafford Park, Manchester, in May 1912. It would have left the factory either as a fully assembled car or as a chassis ready to have a body fitted.
By 1921 it had been converted to a van and was registered to Lord Churston of Chester House, Westside, Wimbledon Common, London SW2. In January 1921 road tax was introduced. Ford cars were very expensive to tax because of their high engine rating but commercial vehicles were exempt. This may be why the chassis was converted from a car to a van. Between 1922 and 1924 Churston's staff used the van at his home at Lupton House, Churston Ferrers, South Devon. On 8 March 1926 Lupton House burned down and in April 1926 the vehicle registration was cancelled.
By 1972 the vehicle had been restored as a green 1912 Ford Roadster, fitted with a replacement engine made on 28 November 1913. In 1984 the car was used in the television drama series 'A Woman of Substance', starring Jenny Seagrove and Liam Neeson. Later the car was displayed at the Motor Museum at Portmadog, from where it was purchased by MOSI in 2007.
