N&W 1218 rolls south through Shipman, Virginia with a short freight train. The A is on a ferry move between Charlottesville and Roanoke.
NW 1218 leads an excursion train across the trestle at Coopers as it heads towards Portsmouth

N&W Class A (2-6-6-4) 1218 at an unknown location. Since the photo is marked June 1990 it was probably on its way to/from St. Louis for the 1990 (June 14-17) NRHS Convention.

Manifestatie 60 jaar NS 1200 (1951-2011). Er waren toen totaal 7 locs aanwezig (ACTS 1254, 1251, en 1255, NS 1218, 1201, 1211 en 1202). Dit is de tweede kleur in de jaren vijftig. De 1201 op de achtergrond is de eerste kleur waarin ze zijn uitgeleverd.
Norfolk & Western 1218 is a steam locomotive that at one time was the strongest-pulling operational steam locomotive in the world. It is a four-cylinder simple articulated locomotive with a 2-6-6-4 (Whyte system) wheel arrangement. The Norfolk & Western Railway built it in 1943 at its Roanoke Shops in Roanoke, Virginia, and was part of the Norfolk & Western's class A fleet of fast freight locomotives.
