Before 2016 every Fan-throated Lizard was considered as Sitana ponticeriana, but Deepak et. al. 2016, Systematic revision of genus Sitana cleared everything we knew about Fan-throated lizards. Sitana ponticeriana was shown only in southern parts of India, while similar looking Fan-throated Lizard having spiny head became 'sitana spinaecephalus' meaning Spiny-headed Fan-throated Lizard...
The fan-like structure made by them by inflating their throat skin is colourless/pale cream coloured compared to other species (now under the genus Sarada) showing vibrant hues of red and blue, but equally fascinating. I witnessed many individuals of Spiny-headed Fan-throated Lizards in my study tour to Western-central India and unfortunately missed clicking many moments of them displaying their fans.
They look so amazing when they escape life-threatening situation by running on their hind-limbs and it reminds you of those tiny dinosaurs from The Jurassic Park... Here am presenting you a male of Spiny-headed Fan-throated Lizard staying still to get camouflage on ground (they are pretty good at this as well, and dont judge their camouflage ability by this close-up am sharing)
When attending my first Great Central Railway (GCR) Winter Steam Gala in January 2010, my visit also allowed access to their Loughborough Motive Power Depot and Locomotive Workshops.
Then, pictured above, GWR Hawksworth Developed 6959 Class or 'Modified Hall Class' 4-6-0 No 6990 Witherslack Hall was still undergoing its latest major overhaul. The boiler had been moved inside, remounted onto its frames and connected to its cab.
This collage is another fine example showing the considerable amount of excellent work undertaken by GCR's highly skilled team between the 2010 and 2016 Winter Steam Galas - when, pictured bottom, despite the inclement weather this then 'Resplendent Locomotive' certainly brightened up the gloom when passing through Loughborough Central Station with the 11.30am mixed freight en route to Rothley Brook.
It successfully returned to service three month's earlier in October 2015, but this was my first reunion since 2010 and great to see it action for the first time. Quite spectacular too!
