SOUTH CHINA SEA (August 13, 2011) - Aviation Machinist's Mate Airman Jack Hansen (left)and Aircrew Survival Equipmentman Airman William Chesnut give the clear to launch signal after completing final mechanical and safety checks of a launching aircraft on board the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). The carrier began its latest patrol on June 12, 2011, departing its forward-operating base of Fleet Activities Yokosuka. Onboard are more than 5,500 Sailors from George Washington and Carrier Air Wing 5. George Washington's mission is to patrol the 7th Fleet area of responsibility, work with regional partners and help ensure security, stability and respond to any crisis across the operational spectrum as directed.
