Hololepta plana could be the flattest beetle in Europe. It belongs to the family of Hister beetles (Histeridae) which are predators of other invertebrates. This species lives under barks, mainly of poplar trees. Its length is 8-10mm, but the height is not more than 1mm.
137 shots were taken with the Mitutoyo BD Plan APO 10x microscope objective at 10x magnification.
Below there is a studio shot of a living specimen!
Playing with a cheap swift childrens microscope (£69). Fuchsia anther focus stacked using zerene. I attached a camera body using an old telescope camera mount and some pipe insulation. The 10X objective is surprisingly good .

Love for Other Things
It’s easy to love a deer
But try to care about bugs and scrawny trees
Love the puddle of lukewarm water
From last week’s rain.
Leave the mountains alone for now.
Also the clear lakes surrounded by pines.
People are lined up to admire them.
Get close to the things that slide away in the dark.
Be grateful even for the boredom
That sometimes seems to involve the whole world.
Think of the frost
That will crack our bones eventually.

Experimenting with the D750. I have a lot to learn about the new camera, but loving it so far.
At first glance, looking through the RAW pictures, it isn't obvious to me which were shot at ISO 200 or 5000.
FYI - At the reduced resolution for uploading to Flickr, this pic shows more noise than some RAW images shot at ISO 5000.

This image was taken maybe 20 minutes before sunrise. The foreground was quite dark, I was working purposefully to getting the gauzy/smokey look of the waves as they surged along the rocks of the shoreline.
