A macro view of electric hair clipper blades. The frame spans approximately 3mm across.
I was growing increasingly discontent with the haircuts I had been receiving. It had gotten to the point that I would come home after my hair appointments, pull out my shears, and touchup my hair to my liking. I finally made the decision to just cut my hair myself. That was twenty-five years ago; I have been cutting my own hair ever since. This is a macro view of the electric WAHL clippers I have been using since then.
Side note: The blurry line in the top blade had confounded me. It appeared in each of several alternate (yes–60+ focus stacked) shots. I surmise that it is from the oil lubrication on the blade.
Strobist/technical info:
The scene is a 64-image focus stack composite. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights, CL/CR, fired through 24" softboxes in Manual mode @ ⅛ power and triggered by PocketWizard Plus Xs.
Lens: Nikon CFI Plan 10X Infinity Achromat objective + Raynox DCM-250.
Another shot from Govetts Leap for sunrise which was only 5 minutes from the hotel. The previous shot was at 120mm so easy to compare the difference of a 10x zoom ;-)
The sun rays came out nicely at f/16.
The trees in left foreground lit up nicely in the early morning sunlight!
Victor and I were hoping for the sky to go crazy with the high level cloud but there must have been too much cloud on the horizon unfortunately. Still a great a sunrise though.
Govetts Leap lookout is right at the carpark so no hiking required.
Why are the Blue Mountains blue? Wikipedia tells us
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mountains_(New_South_Wales)
....the tinge is believed to be caused by mie scattering which occurs when incoming ultraviolet radiation is scattered by particles within the atmosphere creating a blue-greyish colour to any distant objects, including mountains and clouds. Volatile terpenoids emitted in large quantities by the abundant eucalyptus trees in the Blue Mountains may cause mie scattering and thus the blue haze for which the mountains were named...
or that we really don't know but the blue can be easily seen at 120mm.

The bubbles look very good at 10x magnification. But at this magnification, it is difficult to photograph a constantly moving, flowing liquid.
I also didn't like the Microplanar 40mm lens. In general, the lens is good, but it is very afraid of contour light, there is a white veil in the center of the frame, which had to be removed in Photoshop.
