2689: Donaumasten sind die am weitesten verbreitete Bauform für Hochspannungsmasten in den alten Bundesländern. Sie tragen bei voller Beseilung 6 Leiterseile für zwei dreipolige Drehstromkreise, die sich auf zwei Traversen verteilen: zwei auf einer kürzeren oberen, vier auf einer längeren unteren. Im Regelfall haben Donaumasten eine einfache Spitze, auf der das Erdseil, das als Blitzableiter und fallweise als Kommunikationsleitung zwischen Umspannwerken dient, geführt wird. Wird ein stärkerer Blitzschutz benötigt, so erhalten die Masten eine zusätzliche Erdseiltraverse oder - so wie dieser - eine V-förmige Spitze für zwei Erdseile. Der Mast trägt je eine einkreisige Leitung vom Kraftwerk Meppen im Emsland und vom Umspannwerk Lingen-Hanekenfähr, ebenfalls an der Ems, Richtung Norden zum Umspannwerk Weener-Diele bei Papenburg. Er steht unmittelbar nördlich der DolWin-HGÜ-Umformerstation Dörpen zwischen Lathen und Papenburg, über deren Schaltfeld hinweg der Mast fotografiert wurde. An dieser HGÜ-Umformerstation enden die unterirdisch verlegten Gleichstrom-Hochspannungs-Übertragungskabel, die den Offshore-Windpark DolWin in der Nordsee mit dem deutschen Stromnetz verbinden. Der Gleichstrom von dem Windpark wird hier in Wechselstrom umgewandelt und über die Leitungen von Meppen und Lingen-Hanekenfähr nach Weener-Diele in das konventionelle Netz eingespeist. In Weener-Diele befindet sich übrigens die BorWin-HGÜ-Umformerstation für die Offshore-Windparks BorWin 1 und BorWin 2.
