- - - I actually GOT my change in a store today after asking
(I've never gotten it before despite asking)
* Ireland has been "rounding" since October 2015 which means stores KEEP your change if it's 1¢ or 2¢ however, this is totally voluntary - If you ASK for your change they MUST give it to you.
I have asked several times over the past couple of years and been told "NO" or "It's the law... we cannot give you change"
I sent an email to the Central Bank from their "rounding website" a couple of weeks ago and got an immediate response stating that if I ask, I MUST be given my change. They also sent me a PDF file containing the poster that's supposed to be displayed at ALL tills/checkouts in ALL stores that are "rounding"
I'd never seen the poster before so clearly it's NOT being displayed in stores.
Now I can show it to unco-operative checkout staff.
They also told me they had written to the store I complained about that day -- today I got my change in that very store so whatever the Central Bank said must have sunk in . . .
