Me with Pocahontas at Disneyland. May 8th 2008

I have been Tagged by Samia. I suppose that means I have to say some stuff about me. Here it goes:

1.I was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh and I spent the first 22 years of my life there.

2.Both of my parents were educators, my father a professor and mother a school teacher.

3.I’m the oldest of three brothers.

4.I have attended St. Placid’s School, Faujderhat Cadet College, Chittagong University, the University of Maine, and Auburn University (Go Tigers…the national champs!!).

5.I’m a professor, but I hate it when people call me “Dr.”, I’m not much for formality.

6.I had a streak going of not wearing a tie for over 3 years, which I finally had to break last year for my cousin’s wedding.

7.I’m a very liberal person and proud of it. I’m pro choice, pro gay marriage, and pro legalization of marijuana.

8.I’m a diehard supporter of free speech rights. I didn’t think the controversial Danish cartoons were particularly good (except for the one about running out of virgins, that was kinda funny!), but I will always defend the right of the cartoonist to create them and the rights of the paper to publish them.

9.I have known my wife since we were both 13 years old. She is Malaysian. We used to be penpals. Then gradually we became best friends. We didn’t think we would ever get married. We used to tell each other everything. So now we don’t have any skeletons in the closet. We know every intimate detail of each others’ exploits!

10.I am not a prolific photographer, nor do I wish I was one. I only shoot when I feel like it. I don’t want to create millions of photos. If I die having a hundred that are outstanding, I would be happy.

11.During the University of Maine years, my best friend was Chloe. She was a feminist, a lesbian, and a part-time stripper at a Boston club…that’s quite a combination! She was the second person to pose nude for me (the first was my dear friend Mary, who is now a big shot wedding photographer). I showed the photographs from that session to a UMaine art professor, who suggested that I should stick with nudes. I have done nudes on and off since then, so I guess I sort of took his advice. But I’m just too restless to stick to just one genre. And oh yeah, Chloe also spoke fluent French and Korean.

12.Judgmental people turn me off completely. I believe everyone has the right to live their life the way they choose, as long as they don’t infringe on anyone else’s rights.

13.Communal behavior among immigrants irritates me.

14.I think I consider myself a rather dull person. Which is why I surround myself with really interesting people.

15.I have a dog called Princess. After my wife, she is my best friend, my companion and every once in a while, my model. She is 10 years old and I simply cannot bear to think of the day when she might not be around.

16.My favorite color is blue.

17.I am very big on printing. I don't think a photograph can be considered excellent unless it can produce a compelling fine-art print. I consider myself a much better printer than a photographer. I do a lot of printing and use an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and a Stylus Photo 2880 to make my prints.

18.I'm also an occasional collector of archival quality prints. I am, however, highly selective about what I collect. Usually, I tend to purchase works of female photographers, often from the developing world, and sometimes the photographs tend to have a sensual or erotic bend to them. My most recent purchase (not yet complete) is a self-portrait by a Swedish photographer called Mona Ӧhman (www.monartic.se).

19.I am not religious. Most people tend to assume that I am an atheist. I'm actually somewhat spiritual. I do think that there is a supreme creator. I just don't buy what the major religions are selling.

20.I believe women are generally smarter than men, but in most societies they have been conditioned not to show their intelligence.

Do you regret tagging me now, Samia??

this was an experiment. I tried a brand new (to me) of multi-medium paper instead of the usual French cotton one which I use for watercolors. The paper handled completely differently and I could not utilize the touch & technique which I have developed. Never the less, I am pleased with the results & although will mainly stick to the cotton paper, will use this sometimes too.

I found out a regular white light up close can make your eyes look really deep, although my eyes in particular will always look dull no matter what I do. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the reflection of the lamp, if I tried to look other way, you couldn't even see the iris.

An estimated 1 in 100 American women binges and purges to lose weight.

In the UK, nearly 2 in every 100 secondary school girls suffer from anorexia nervosa,

bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder.

It is estimated that 200,000 to 300,000 Canadian women aged 13 to 40 have anorexia nervosa and twice as many have bulimia.

Studies suggest that 5 to 10 percent of people with anorexia or bulimia are males.

In a study of children aged 8-10, approximately 50 per cent of girls said they were unhappy with their size.

In a study of girls aged 9-15, more than 50 per cent claimed they exercised to lose weight, nearly 50 per cent claimed they reduced food intake in order to lose weight, and approximately 5 per cent claimed to use their parents' diet pills or laxatives in order to lose weight.

The media needs to stop telling us what their definition of beauty is. kthnx.

Me Hug...how terribly narcissistic!

I thought it was time to get rid of my scuba ID photo...yes, this is me, at my favorite beach...(photo taken by my husband)

My favorite beach is on Fire Island.

Google map of Fire Island... click here

This is me, I work on the web.

I'm a Ruby developer mainly working with the Rails framework. I'm fortunate to work with some of the best developers/people in the universe and as I'm based in London I get to hang out with many more of them at LRUG

At home I work on Agileista (alpha) and I made MoodMapr as a laugh after being inspired by the amazing people I met at EuRuKo (especially Agata and Marcin of Applicake)

Aside from writing software I have a strong passion for the art of photography, specifically black and white and working with off camera light sources. If I did it all again I'd probably be an architect (the kind that designs buildings)

Many of my friends work in the music industry and I'm considered a member of the Foreign Beggars family. I do what I can to help out at Dented Records which I legally co-founded

Having grown up across three continents in London, Riyadh, Leysin (Switzerland) and Boston whilst also feeling at home in North Cyprus, Dubai and New York, it's the vast network of people in my extended family that make me who I am ("We form like Voltron" as a wise man once said)

I also love music, exercise, football, snowboarding, motorcycles and cars (I love a lot of stuff but I've taken each of these to legal/illegal extremes)

This is who I am, who are you?

Me back stage with my all time favorite country western singer.

This photo was taken in Iowa at the West Liberty Fair and Carnival, Sunday, July 29th, 1979.

talking with water

Real pic of me no steal

pile me up beautifully with brownish blonde hair :))

have fun

I don't know where I've been

I don't know what I'm into

I don't know what I've done to me

Feed me

I'm hungry

Feed me empty spoons

Use them

Fill them with soft words

With white lies

transparent lies

Colorful lies

Feed me a whole new reality

Another sky

Another you

Us

Feed me scents

That trigger lost memories

Pour onto my closed eyes visions

Girl on a bike

The smile of a stranger

The eyes of a boy in love

Waves on your shore

Caressing hands

lines on a neck

Feed me sounds

To remind me

I'm just a dangling shell

The essence is in an empty spoon

Feed me,

I'm hungry

Feed me stones so that the earth can feel some weight

My weight.

Feed me until I'm real.

It wouldn't matter

But I'm hungry

Feed me!

Feed me the sweet anxiety of new messages...

Feed me love

Yes, with that empty spoon in your hands

Feed me,

I'm hungry.

I'm the shell that will never be full again

A dangling shell in the wind

Facing this ocean I'll never get to swim in

I should surrender

But I'm hungry

Feed me!

mysterious numbers!

me: wearing my favorite t-shirt(s). back when i was still a freshman in college, i had the unfortunate habit of coming late to class due to...(i'm ashamed to say) spending too much time in picking which clothes to wear (because i had clothes and pants of various colors). to end the problem, i bought six t-shirt with the same design, the same color, and combined them with my batik pants (back when they were still presentable in public view. hihi). one shirt for each day, except (i don't have class in) sunday.

ps:

*friends of mine thought this was a freshmen class 2001 (of which i was) t-shirt. i told them it wasn't.

*they also often asked me: so what does the numbers represents? to which i answered: i don't know, you have to asked the guy who designed it or the factory that made it. hihi.

Tiene un fallo gordo.. pero no se cómo solucionarlo..

Section out bangs, all the way to the ears, clip forward for now. Backcomb almost all the hair, sectioning out piece at the back, lower than ear level. Pull backcombed hair into a ponytail, smoothing the top and sides. Ponytail should be loose. Holding the length, pin the rubber band upward on the head so the length flips forward. Comb the back section upward, pinning below the pony. Arrange ends, curling if necessary. Fix bangs however you like (I did side part swept slightly forward) and pin the sides back smoothly. Integrate ends into pony. Spray and wisps smooth.
