I have been living in Burgundy (near Mâcon) for more than twenty years. And yet, i had never since nowadays visited Saint-Philibert Abbey in Tournus, at about 30 km from Macon. It was time to repair this oblivion ...

I was not disappointed, it is worth the detour, it is a magnificent Romanesque building built between the Xth century and the XIIth century.

The exterior of the abbey church is not very spectacular, it makes a very massive ensemble, almost like a fortress. I found remarkable the interior of the abbey with its Romananesque vaults in transverse cradles. This is what makes the abbey famous.

The church houses the tomb of Saint-Philibert.

Saint-Philibert was a monk, he had founded the abbey of Jumièges in Normandy in 654. At his death, he had been buried on the island of Noirmoutiers. Later, in 836, to escape the Norman invasions, monks carried off his relics, and the chance of their peregrinations led them as far as Tournus, where the relics were at last deposed in the year 875.

Trieste is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy. It is situated towards the end of a narrow strip of land lying between the Adriatic Sea and Italy's border with Slovenia, which lies almost immediately south and east of the city. Trieste is located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste and throughout history it has been influenced by its location at the crossroads of Germanic, Latin and Slavic cultures. In 2009, it had a population of about 205,000 and it is the capital of the autonomous region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trieste province.

Trieste was one of the oldest parts of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1382 until 1918. In the 19th century, it was the most important port of one of the Great Powers of Europe. As a prosperous seaport in the Mediterranean region, Trieste became the fourth largest city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (after Vienna, Budapest, and Prague). In the fin-de-siecle period, it emerged as an important hub for literature and music. However, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Trieste's union to Italy after World War I led to some decline of its "Mittel-European" cultural and commercial importance. Enjoying an economic revival during the 1930s and throughout the Cold War, Trieste was an important spot in the struggle between the Eastern and Western blocs. Today, the city is in one of the richest regions of Italy, and has been a great centre for shipping, through its port (Port of Trieste), shipbuilding and financial services.

Happy New Year and HSS!

I'll still be on break from Flickr for a while after today, friends, but expect to be back on a more regular basis soon.

Had my wife pose for me with her gorgeous feet in thong sandals. This was followed by me sucking and tickling her sexy feet.

Bright brown and beautiful.

Autum was leaving me its yellow, red and brown,

Revealing the beauty of your face among nature's faces.

Winter is coming around,

Showing me your ribs and veins as a series of laces

The air you are breathing,

The world I am living,

Magic.Wonderland.

"The Aletsch Glacier (German: Aletschgletscher) or Great Aletsch Glacier (Grosser Aletschgletscher) is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km (14 mi) (2014), has about a volume of 15.4 km3 (3.7 cu mi) (2011), and covers about 81.7 km2 (31.5 square miles) (2011) in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed of four smaller glaciers converging at Concordia, where its thickness was measured by the ETH to be still near 1 km (3,300 ft).[citation needed] It then continues towards the Rhône valley before giving birth to the Massa.

The whole area, including other glaciers is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

HBW!

As of 7/1/25, I am correcting my earlier ID. I now think that this is a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron.

It is hard to imagine how ginormous these rocks are unless you can put things into perspective. The photographer on the right is my brother who is a healthy six-footer. Compare him to some people you see walking in the distance by the pines who are dwarfed by 100+ ft tall trees. Now compare these trees to the ones in the distance on the rocks. Now you get the picture.

Half Dome on the right rises nearly 5,000 ft from the valley with a peak at 8,836 ft (2,693 m) above sea level. On the left front are the Royal Arches ending with Washington Column on the right and North Dome in the back. Between the two rock formations run Tenaya Creek and Mirror Lake.
