So back when I was a kid the Cookeville Mall* (there's no footnote there - the sign literally said mall asterisk. there was always much speculation as to what the footnote would say if it were to have existed) was the place to go, or so I heard from the cool kids.

The past decade it's been in a steady decline as the big box parking lot stores have come to power. I visited the Mall today to see just what was left. Today (a Sunday) the only stores open were GNC and JC Penny's, and Penny's didn't even have a mall entrance. You had to go outside to find your way in, as if it were ashamed to be associated with the dead Mall. All the other stores I saw (all two? three?) had signs up saying, "We're moving in a few days." Whatever space was left was either empty and locked up, or filled with useless junk not yet cleared out.

This is a shot of the inside of the old video arcade (named The Fun Tunnel, *snicker*), the only reason I ever went to the Mall. Now it's another one of the junk piles.

This really doesn't have any significance, except to those of us who are Cookevillians, and who remember the glory days of our Mall, and now yearn for its destruction so maybe they'll finally put up a damn Target.

Asterisk lichen on a branch in the forest.

The first time I visited Smith Rock, I showed up just before sunset and spent most of the night scrambling around the park, taking photos of the stars. At one point, I ended up scrambling up and over Asterisk Pass. In the dark. With my camera gear. It was really dumb.

i don't get it when people use alt letters in order to not write out swear words. BUT but but. don't you read the swear words in your head anyway?

just swear already.

and meanwhile, note to self: must organize my sh*t too! ;)

Some lab equipment to test out an Asterisk PBX.

No matter what you think of it, the asterisk on this ball tells quite a story. Of course, this is Barry Bond's home run #756 ball. It's "enshrined" at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. When this ball exited the playing field, Barry Bonds became the new Home Run King. Personally, I have changed my opinion on this several times. I am glad for the asterisk on the ball. I hope baseball at the very least, adds a matching asterisk in the record book. Barry Bonds would not have the home run record without steroids -- so it seems fair that baseball not recognize the record of a known cheater.

I shot this picture in September 2008 at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

I encourage you to comment ...

First ever lifetime win, and every penny is tax free. Thank you ERNIE! At last!!

This first section (above row of asterisks) is with corrections made by Flickr User Konabish. The latter section is what I had before he helped me correct it. My thanks to him.

To the best of my knowledge the smallest plane is a TP-51C Mustang Fighter named Betty Jane. The bomber plane that says Witchcraft and Audre is a B-24J Liberator bomber. It was built in USA, sent to Britain, and it saw action during WWII with the Royal Air Force (RAF). After WWII it saw service in India. The bomber plane with Nine 0 Nine or 909 on the side is a B-17G Flying Fortress Bomber, and I got to see it fly into Corvallis, Oregon Airport. These 3 planes were from WWII and are restored and maintained by The Collings Foundation (www.cfdn.org). There were many veterans at the show this afternoon, and they seemed both happy and awed to see these.

This section below the row of asterisks is what I thought was correct until Konabish helped me. I only keep it for a reference of what I had said previously.

Obviously, I am neither a WWII expert nor a fighter and bomber plane expert. I post these here for those of you that are, to enjoy. To the best of my knowledge the smallest plane is a B-17 Fighter Plane Mustang named Betty Jane. The bomber plane that says Witchcraft and Audre is a B-21, I think. It was built in USA, sent to Britain and they used it in India. Someone at the show said it might not be the exact one. I don't know. The bomber plane with Nine 0 Nine or 909 on the side is a B-24 Bomber, I think, and I got to see it fly into Corvallis, Oregon Airport. These 3 planes were from WWII. There were many veterans at the show this afternoon, and they seemed both happy and awed to see these. Please feel free to offer corrections, but don't slam me for my lack of knowledge about this subject. I had no money to go into the show, and I did the best I could.

My "X" is on the man's suspenders. I wasn't really stalking him, but had to follow him quite a way to get this shot. LOL

This is ~6 hours of work; hopefully I can get the rest of the work (tombstones, fender mount stay, fork legs stays, crown stay, light mount) done in another 13 hours and keep my income above minimum wage (actually it needs to be under 11 hours, because the firegas tank is running low and will probably need to be refilled tomorrow.)

These racks are all basically rectangular and (at least the 10x8s) basically the same size. Thank goodness I've got a square and I made up a rail jig for brazing the rails into place, otherwise the "basically" would be laughably optimistic.

(Way out of focus because the electronic viewfinder on the camera DOES NOT deal well with low-light situations, and to add insult to injury the camera doesn't have antishake. So double the blur for half the price!)

The asterisk is based on a famous one in a Kurt Vonnegut's book "Breakfast of Champions."

What is SIP Trunking? What are SIP Trunks? A SIP trunk is a service offered by a supplier such as Tpad that permits businesses that have a Telephone PBX to use Voice-over-IP (VoIP), outside the enterprise network by using the Internet connection. The SIP Trunk enables connection to the standard PSTN and Mobile telephone networks via Tpad, thus eliminating the need for expensive multiple ISDN lines and also benefiting from lower cost calls. A business would keep their existing phone system but look to gain benefit from a SIP Trunk, especially if they were making a large amount of phone calls on a month by month basis and/or their call spend was high.

SIP trunks can offer additional significant cost-savings for enterprises, eliminating the need for local PSTN gateways, costly ISDN BRIs (Basic Rate Interfaces) or PRIs (Primary Rate Interfaces).

Take advantage of our Tpad's low cost SIP Trunk line rental and call charges which are compatible with all types of telephone system that can use SIP / IAX Trunks. Whether you need a VoIP telephony service for your Asterisk or VoIP Gateways connected to your Legacy (Analogue) PBX, or need to utilize the VoIP capabilities of your Panasonic, Siemens, Avaya, Samsung, LG, Toshiba or other brand of phone system then Tpad's business quality SIP trunking services are for you.

Even if you don't have a VoIP compatible phone system you can still take advantage of our low rates and line rental by installing a VoIP gateway which will allow you to route calls from your phone system across the internet to our SIP Trunk service. For small business users with Analogue or ISDN BRI telephone lines you can connect any popular VoIP gateway which offers VoIP G729 / G711 connectivity for SIP Trunks as well as branch office connectivity for free calls between offices.

The lines represent life and the things around you, but like an asterisk everything intersects with each other at some point, not only connecting everyone with everything around us, but also a unity with the universe.
