Active Assignment Weekly: Aug 16-23: Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness
I thought after my wacky submission I should try a more serious one. I have tried this shot a few times and I think I am finally happy with how it came out.
This shot shows sadness for me because it represents someone who is empty inside or missing something.
I purposely left my face out of the shot for two reasons:
1. To keep it more general so more people could relate to it, and
2. I wanted to avoid another Sonny verbal assault :-)
WIT: A picture of me holding a picture frame, then switch to manual focus before pressing the shutter again to keep the DOF the same as the original and took a shot of the background. In photoshop, layered the photos and used a layer mask to brush out the inside of the picture frame.

In 1900 it was decided to build the first power plant of the region to supply the city of Brixen with electric current: an isolated plot of land near the town of Schabs, down in the canyon of Rienz river, was chosen as the site for hydroelectric power station "Rundl". A couple of years later, on December 18th 1903, electric lights illuminated the city centre for the first time. Unfortunately in the 1940s the newly built dams rendered this power plant useless: turbines and other machinery were removed and the buildings were soon abandoned. As of today, Kraftwerk Rundl is still at its place, looking like a fairytale castle and standing in the middle of overgrown trees. The roar of the the river flowing violently and the loneliness of the site make this a spooky - but fascinating - location.

If you’ve had to get teeth taken out, it can be a huge confidence point. You might not feel like your smile is all that great, and it can be hard to truly feel confident. Luckily, there are some options that you can consider, and we’ll discuss more about what they are below.
First, you might wonder why you should replace missing teeth. This is important for many different reasons. It’s not just in an aesthetics sense, but it also helps you chew, speak clearly, and they’re almost like placeholders for a lot of people. When you are missing some of these, it’ll cause the teeth to shift, and it actually causes bite problems because they don’t line up correctly. The gum tissue and bone beneath the gaps as well left by this actually can start to break down, which will make them weaker. This can lead to further tooth loss, and if that’s the case, it can definitely not be a ton of fun.
So, what are your options? Well, the best one is really based on your budget, typical health, and even your personal choice. Depending on the situation, the dentist might recommend some of the options, including the following:
Implants, which are artificial replacement roots placed in the jawbone with a crown on top.
A fixed bridge which is a row of artificial teeth that’s in place via bonding or cementing the teeth around there.
Or dentures, which is an entire arch of teeth, both upper and lower, which are replaced with a prosthetic embedded with a replacement tooth on it, usually done if you need a lot of teeth removed.
Implants are those that are good because they can completely restore functionality, aesthetics, and comfort as well. Neon of the teeth around there are altered, so you don’t need to damage any of the healthy teeth. They’re also super durable, can last decades, and they can prevent bone loss since they’re replacing a root. If you need to get a replacement tooth, this is the best way to go.
Now, for fixed bridges, these require healthy and enough bone tissue, so they’re not right for every person, but they do function like natural teeth. They’re permanently set in place, so you don’t have to remove for cleaning or slippage. These also cost less than dental implants, so if you need a lot of these, this is one of the options that is out there.
Finally, there are dentures, which is done when you need to replace all of your teeth in a sector, such as upper and lower. This is the cheapest option. They are removable to clean and repair, and they are made of material that do look and function like normal teeth. They also have implant retained dentures, or overdentures that are put in place as well, so if you’re wanting something that isn’t removable, this is also a great option as well. Dentures do have a few disadvantages though, and really don’t need to be considered unless you need to replace a lot, or if cost is a huge part of this.
At the end of the day though, all of these work well, since they all do restore your smile and give you confidence once again. Essentially, if you’re struggling with which one to get, you need to talk to your dentist about this, to see what will fit into your budget, and other factors as well such as bone and gum health as well, since that might affect your options. If you are thinking about considering this, then talk to your dentist about it and get the help that you need.
But remember with all of these, that the best option is better than no options, and it’s better to rectify this condition now than wait on it. If you’re worried about the future of your overall oral health, you should go see your dentist about it, look at the options, and choose something from the ones that are there that not only work for you, but also can help you with restoring your overall oral health and wellness for yourself, and for the future of your mouth as well.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I am such a sucker for any sort of American Girl clothes. Even though McKenna has one of my least favorite Girl of the Year collections, I knew I was eventually going to get this Team Gear AND the Performance Set (preferably together). McKenna's clothes are adorable and well made, don't get me wrong. I've just never been inclined to sporty clothing. Part of why I wanted this particular set was for the slippers. I thought they made the Performance Set look more complete. American Girl was clever selling the two sets separately this way...it ensured people would spend more money (the leotard retailed for $28, this jacket for $24). That's why I'm glad I bought this secondhand in a lot with the Performance Set on eBay in 2021! I am missing the medal, but I did get a supplementary one with it (it's from a Girl of Today outfit). I also was shocked that the original bracelet was included. Both the Team Gear and the Performance Set belonged to little girls who played with them a LOT. That's how some of the smaller accessories went missing, and why the Performance Set leotard was damaged. It's miraculous that this little bracelet survived. It's so well made and gorgeous...I think it will be worn often by all my Girl of the Years! The coolest feature of this Jacket is McKenna's name which is sewn on the back. It makes up for this fake zipper. By fake, I mean that it can't actually be completely undone. You can zip it up and down the track, but you can't separate the zipper stopper so you can have the jacket hang open. I was surprised by this detail, since all my other American Girl jackets can fully open.

Nov. 24, 2016 - looking for the "sneaky shoes" that left prints coming and going from basement window
This is Newcastle, staffs,sun. April15th.
Here stands 128 and one of her passenger's is missing, Alan Hall.
sadly Alan passed away 2 days before
this event, and will be greatly missed
by one and all, no more than I as he and myself have been close friends
for almost 40 years.
For those who may or not know he and
I were main organisers of the '128 group' from day one, Alan was the
mainstay of the group, now the front passenger seat will be empty as he
allways sat there, and no one will fill that seat or the role he 'played' within
the group, as a bus preservationist & enthusiaste, also in the steam railway circles he will be greatly missed.
My apologies for this small tribute entering so late, as others have already been posted on the 'site', my thoughts have been on missing my best 'mate' and for his family. - Keith.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Both my Tandem Bike Cloe and Yasmin dolls were in ragged shape when I rescued them. But ironically, they were not purchased together. In fact, I got the gals not quite a year apart from one another. Yasmin came from a bin we purchased at the local flea market, whereas Miss Cloe was discovered at the Salvation Army. Like Yasmin, Cloe is missing some of the key components to her original getup. She doesn't have her adorable sporty jacket, or her shoes. Both of these elements Yasmin does have, however she does not own her tank top currently. Cloe's pants were one of the most disgusting clothing items I had encountered in a while. They had a weird silver substance by the waistband, and their general appearance was grubby. Luckily her outfit looked much fresher after being laundered--we even went a step further than usual and added some Oxy Clean to the load. It really helped not only remove the stains, but also brighten up the general appearance of these items.

(Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden)
It was a sad day for Washington when the news announced Olga Viso's imminent departure as the director of the Hirshhorn. Under her direction, the Hirshhorn has flourished beyond classic modern art into more varied contemporary art. Some of my favorite exhibitions during her tenure include a survey of the works of Juan Munoz and a magnificent Hiroshi Sugimoto photo retrospective. My only consolation is that she is moving to the Walker Art Center where she will take the helm of one of the country's most respected center for contemporary art. It doesn't hurt that Herzog and de Meuron, the partnership behind the Tate Modern, was behind their recent expansion.
The last exhibition Ms. Viso curated will be showing after her departure at the end of this year. "The Cinema Effect: Illusion, Reality, and the Moving Image" will be shown in two parts in February and in June 2008. Read more about it here.

this photo was taken near the end of a four-day hut-to-hut hike from Mitzpah to Lake of the Clouds to Madison hut in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The exit point was at the Appalachia trailhead near Gorham. Below is the story on the missing man, Eric James.

PORTSMOUTH — A body discovered in the ocean about a mile off the coast of Rye on Sunday morning has not been identified, but Darwin James thinks it may be his missing brother Eric.
"We're pretty sure," said Darwin, who told the Herald that a man recovered from the ocean by the U.S. Maine Patrol was wearing a T-shirt identical to one given to Eric, a Portsmouth resident, by a friend. "His name wasn't in it, but we're pretty sure it was his."
Eric's mother, Marie-Helene James, said Monday night that Eric's American dentist has no X-ray records for him. In Eric's native France, his dental records would be 12 years old and his French dentist reported that he disposed of them after 10 years, she said.
"DNA testing has to take place," she said, noting that the state crime lab estimated it will take a month to confirm the person's identity.
Darwin said he and his mother provided DNA samples on Monday.
One of the James' neighbors posted a notice on Facebook Monday night on the family's behalf reading, "I'm so very sad to report, and the James family wanted me to let you know, that with fair certainty the man whose remains were recovered yesterday from Rye Harbor is Eric. I spent some time with Eric's mom and brother and they wanted me to ... thank you for your tireless support; amazing gifts from hundreds of wonderful, caring people. ... And, lastly, bless you dear Eric, with heaving heart I wish you peace."
Marie-Helene said the notice was posted to notify the many people who helped assist with the search for Eric, "to keep the weekend for themselves."
Darwin said if the person is confirmed to be his brother, he will be buried in France.
"We still don't know what happened to him and probably never will," he said.
James, 33, was afflicted with bipolar disorder and often behaved younger than his age, according to his family.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Paul King told the Herald on Monday morning that the body was recovered from the ocean before noon on Sunday, following a report from a fisherman about "a body in the water."
Coast Guard personnel were assisted by the U.S. Marine Patrol and the body was brought to the Coast Guard station in New Castle, he said.
"We don't know who it is," said King.
An autopsy was conducted Monday and the state medical examiner's officer is charged with determining the cause of death, as well identifying the person, said Rye Police Chief Kevin Walsh.
Eric has been missing since July 18 and was last seen on the Rye coastline where his kayak and paddle were later found.
A Rye police officer is the last known person to have seen him and reported that he was wet and said in his French accent that he was "taking a break from kayaking." An hour earlier, witnesses on a University of New Hampshire research boat saw him, warned him about the dangers of kayaking after dark and James responded by asking twice, "Are you Christians?" according to the witnesses.
The following Sunday, Eric didn't show up at the New Hope Baptist Church as usual. According to his family, the church pastor received a letter from Eric, postmarked two days earlier, which was "very religious" in nature and included a $2,000 check with a note thanking the pastor "for everything."
Walsh said his department has not heard of any other missing persons in the area.

For the first time in probably over a year, a new Madness reference, this time to their track 'Missing You.'
I believe it was penned by Suggs (lead singer) who was inspired by his yearning for loved ones while constantly on tour with the band. It's a nice upbeat song with crashing drums (not usual for Madness songs) and a crazy sax solo bridge. It almost sounds like rock and roll but rather makes me think of warm coffee shops in the winter for some reason.
The image I used is an old one from the 23rd of December 2011, back when I was in a long-distance relationship, so it plays to the lyrics of the song; my ex is on a webcam on the Mac in real-time but we're not physically together in person (we never were other than in high school before the actual relationship started).
