Wellington.
Morphett selected the area around Wellington and up both banks of the Murray River for the Secondary Towns Association as a Special Survey for £4,000 in 1839. Morphett bought up land in the district for himself as well. The Secondary Towns Association had also paid for the Special Survey at Currency Creek which they foresaw would become the New Orleans of the South. They had the same idea about Wellington (although Morphett wanted to call the town Victoria.) They surveyed the land, selling off 400 forty acre farmlets and they subdivided one thousand town blocks for the town of Wellington. Their high expectations were not met, few town blocks were built upon and Wellington East on the other side of the Murray never developed at all. Wellington was at the end of the Murray and at the entranced to Lake Alexandrina but traffic was slow and when the river trade did begin in 1854 Wellington was just one stop among many. It never became a major river port. Its two ongoing and consistent functions were to provide ferry services across the Murray River and to house the police, Aboriginal Sub-Protection Officer (John Mason for many years) and visiting court officials.
Apart from John Morphett, one of the first buyers of freehold land in Wellington and near Wellington was Allan McFarlane who later built Wellington Lodge. Other early land purchasers were the Cooke brothers and Robert Barr Smith. All saw the potential of Wellington but only McFarlane stayed the distance and reaped the rewards. Although being located at a major crossing point of the Murray and being the gateway town for the land route down to the South East and on to Port Phillip colony, Wellington suffered set backs. In 1879 a new road and rail bridge was opened at Edwards Crossing, now Murray Bridge removing much of the traffic across the Murray at Wellington. The town survived this. But the arrival of the railway at nearby Tailem Bend (1886) took even more traffic away from Wellington. Although there was government talk of a bridge across the Murray at Wellington in 1864 nothing happened at that stage. The feasibility studies were done on several crossing points with Wellington coming in the most expensive as the bedrock soil report was not favourable. Wellington would have been the most expensive option for bridging the Murray. Edwards Crossing, the cheapest, was selected instead in the 1870s.
But before the bridge was built Willington in the 1840s had great potential. Morphett operated the first ferry across the Murray in 1839 before the town was established in 1840. The town had a police presence before the township was established too with a Sub-Protector of Aboriginals based there. The government stationed police there from 1841 to bring law and order to the region. The first police station was built in 1845 but it was probably not much more than a shanty. It was replaced by a new station in 1849. But the soft soils at Wellington meant that this structure was soon in need of replacement and it was condemned in 1862. The current police station, and court house (and originally ferry house too) were erected in 1864. The stables were added in 1865. Although in a good state of repair it has not been a court house and police station for many years. It was owned by the National Trust but it has recently been sold to private occupiers. In the 1840s two hotels were licensed in Wellington but only one survived, the 1846 built Wellington Hotel. Despite modernisation it is still there and still operates.
Perhaps the most famous ferryman at Wellington was the former Police Commissioner Alexander Tolmer. The one time Commissioner of Police, and instigator of the Gold Escort services from the Victorian goldfields in the early 1850s. But by 1857 he was unemployed as his position was made redundant. In that year Tolmer moved to Wellington to become a sheep farmer and the ferry man. He wrote his biography which he called A Chequered Career to explain his demise. He had pioneered a route across the Ninety Mile desert to Victoria to escort gold back to Adelaide to be assayed in the SA office. The first escort in 1852 took nine days to reach Bendigo. The Governor Sir Henry Fox gave a dinner party for Tolmer on his return and a gift of £100. Commissioner Tolmer led two more escorts but in total some 18 escorts were conducted. Some time later when he was away on police business, a review of the police department led to him being demoted to Inspector. Then this inspector position was abolished in 1856. Our gold hero was then unemployed! In 1857 he moved to Wellington and took up a block of land. Tolmer wrote about himself:”I knew no more about sheep farming than the man in the moon.” He gave up farming and was almost destitute but he then he gained a part time job as returning officer for the District of Murray. His main income was rent from his house at Norwood. In 1859/60 he bought a boat from Mr Potts a boat builder (and wine maker) of Langhorne’s Creek and he began a second ferry service across the Murray. He nearly drowned working his ferry and Alan McFarlane, the great pastoralist of Wellington Lodge rescued him and the boat. Then in 1862 Tolmer was appointed Crown Lands Ranger at a salary of £200 per annum. In 1866 he and his family were transferred to Kingston South East and he departed from Wellington. In 1871 he returned to the Valuations Department of the government in Adelaide. He then lived at Mitcham until he died there in 1891.

Yesterday I've made another attempt at Light Painting, and even though I'm miles and miles away from reaching the level of awesomeness of my LP idols Vincent, Wen and Tim, I majorly enjoy doing this, so I won't stop...unless I come across a seriously pretty puddle that might force me to shoot some wicked reflections of it, lol :)

-As we set off together, we began to learn more about Amy. She said she was from a wealthy family, and while on their luxury ship, they were attacked by unknown forces and, because of the strange weapons they used, Amy was 124 years into the future, in the midst of Protectorate ruled Sidasia. After talking for a while, we came across a Protectorate scout, who was the first we’d seen in about a week. I wanted to shoot him, but Leo stopped me, and said “Remember what happened last time?”-Jacob-

-Part 4-Encounter
But as the clouds rolled over and the sun descended in the sky, her sense of joy faded and she seemed to loose the feeling of uncapacitated freedom. Instead, she felt the expanding emptiness looming. Overwhelmed by her hollowness, she sought out comfort in something sturdier than she was, a nearby tree. It felt cold and inanimate and did not offer the warmth of the sun or the playfulness and youth of the prairie grass.

Second part of The Three Pashas series:
Djemal Pasha (1872 –1922)
Ahmed Djemal Pasha (in Turkish: Ahmet Cemal Paşa), was one of the “Three Pashas”, a triumvirate of senior officials who ruled the Ottoman Empire during World War I, and also Minister of the Navy and the Mayor of Istanbul. In 1911, he was appointed Governor of Baghdad and promoted to colonel in 1912, playing a significant role in the Second Balkan War, becoming commander of Constantinople and minister of public works. At the beginning of WWI, he was promoted to Minister of the Navy. After trying to create a failed alliance with France, sided with the other Pashas, Enver and Talaat, that favoured the German side, taking full control of the Empire in 1913. Promoted Governor of Syria in 1915, he commanded the Fourth Army, and seemingly tried to make peace with France. Within the end of the war, Djemal fled to Germany, and then Switzerland. A military court in Turkey accused Djemal of persecuting Arab subjects of the Empire, and sentenced him to death in absentia. Due to the success of the Bolshevik Revolution, Djemal travelled to Tiflis to act as a military liaison officer to negotiate over Afghanistan with the Soviets. Together with his secretary he was assassinated on 21 July 1922 by three men as part of Operation Nemesis, in retribution for his role in the Armenian Genocide. Djemal’s involvement in the Armenian Genocide is still a subject of controversy.

It’s in the evening or even at night. The nurses have writing implements in hand. It seems they are writing in patient records. Sister Agnes again indicated by the arrow. She has something in her left hand. Maybe a clinical thermometer? Keys and scissors hung at hand above the lampshade. Bowls are visible under the table. A bed on the left, maybe for the night shift.
The whole photo series can be found in my album „Series of photos of a nurse - Fotoreihe einer Krankenschwester“.

Aprilia is a dream come true. The dream of an enthusiast, Ivano Beggio, who made up his mind to create a motorcycle company which would become famous throughout the world. And to become famous in the motorcycling world, racing and winning at maximum level is indispensable. Madness at a time when, one after the other, the great Italian and English companies were starting to disappear with the formidable Japanese in hot pursuit.
How often over the years, even after Aprilia had started to make a name for itself, they accused the Noale company of being "over ambitious". A rider who transferred from Aprilia to Honda at the end of the 1980s said in an interview: "At Noale, we were all a bit dazzled. We even thought we could beat the Japanese!".
The distinctive characteristic of Aprilia is the genius, the passion, the creativity and the faith common to Ivano Beggio and his closest collaborators, from the first motorcycles made by hand at the end of the 1960s, one-offs assembled with the heart, to enter the third millennium with a range going right up to 1000 cc and acquisition of a piece of international motorcycling history, Moto Guzzi.
In 1985, thanks to an agreement with Rotax, the first Aprilia four-stroke, the ETX 350, was launched, followed by the 600. True to the company's spirit, participation was also stepped up in the African raids such as the Pharaoh and the Dakar.
In 1985, the adventure of the World Speed Championships began with Loris Reggiani. You can find the full story of Aprilia on the tracks year by year in the racing section of this site.
At the same time, the commitment to motocross and trials was still strong. With the TX 311, Diego Bosis came second in the World Championship, winning in the United States.
On August 30, 1987, Loris Reggiani won the first 250 cc Grand Prix with the AF1. In the meantime, the road "derivation" model, reaching 30 hp thanks to the RAVE (Regulation Aprilia Valve Exhaust), was an enormous hit among young people - not to mention the later "Sintesi". Aprilia was making an ever greater name for itself on the international motorcycling scene, thanks to its characteristic innovation, image and flexibility.
It was not long before launch of the Pegaso 600, one of the mainstays of Aprilia production, and the Amico, the colourful, easy to ride scooter which confirmed Aprilia's gift for anticipating market trends and needs.
In 1992, Aprilia won its first world championship title - or rather, its first three. The Finnish rider Tommi Avhala won the rider's title and contributed to the constructor's title. A few months later, Alessandro Gramigni won the World 125 Championship.
In 1993, the new Scarabeo 50 was launched, becoming an unequalled success, followed in 1995 by the Moto - designed by Philippe Starck - with its absolutely unique styling. It is no accident that it is displayed at the New York Museum of Modern Art.
The same year also saw the birth of the exceptional RS250, one of the most successful sports motorcycles of all times. In 1996, the Leonardo - the maxi-scooter characterised by an ultra-efficient four-stroke four-valve engine - was launched.
In 1998 it was the turn of Sonic, the brightly coloured micro-scooter aimed at a young public and in 1999 of the RSVMille. This signalled Aprilia's entry into the maxi-motorcycle world, astonishing everyone with its extraordinary ridability and immediately becoming a standard setter in its class.
In the meantime, the company had already won a further thirteen world championship titles.
Aprilia began production at the end of the 1960s with the Amico and the Daniela, the first small diameter wheel mini-scooters. These were soon joined by the Colibrì, the first Aprilia hinting at that sporting spirit which would soon become so familiar - tapering, with a distinctive exhaust, forcing the rider to adopt a position as uncomfortable as it was sporty and aerodynamic. Despite the success of these early products, the most famous Aprilia in this initial period was the Scarabeo which made Ivano Beggio's first passion abundantly clear - motocross.
It was on the dirt tracks that the structure today so well-known and admired throughout the world as "Racing Aprilia" made its debut. It's true that in place of the multi-coloured TIRs, there was a Fiat 238, but the attention paid to graphics and a highly original image was patently obvious. Ivan Alborghetti was the Valentino Rossi of those years, in 1977 winning Aprilia the Italian 125 and 250 titles. Victories which led to a boom in replica bikes. After the Italian Championship, Aprilia went on to compete in the World Motocross Championships with Corado Maddii in the 125s. Few will remember that wearing the team colours in the 250s was the Japanese rider Torao Suzuki.
In the meantime, the Aprilia Development Department threw itself into another field very popular at the time, trials. This proved highly satisfying.
From the racing experience came a number of highly attractive road bikes, in particular the liquid-cooled 125 ST with single arm suspension. The more sporty STX immediately found a place in the competitive 125 road bikes market.
The 50 cc market also smiled on Aprilia and the company introduced motorcycles distinguished by an attention to detail and dimensioning extremely rare in the competition as can be seen in the AF1 or the ET.

This is the beginning of my current project.
I am making an industrial yard attatched to a factory and main line. The entire place will be in an apoc state, and this will be probably the only "clean" section of it
The freight yard and factory will be serviced by a single switcher, and will be a working diarama. There will be uncouplers at strategic sites, and all will be controlled by a NXT Controller.
Sorry about the blurry picture, my camera is still having problems.

Part 10: Solo
(Filmed with a Chest Mounted Go-pro)
After taking the photo of sunrise I walked back to our camp on the beach and saw the kayak gliding along the glassy mirror like lake. I took a few more photos of the lake and it's reflections. Soon the kayak came ashore. A man got out and pulled it up onto the beach, I nodded at him and said, "Good morning", he returned the greeting.
Later that morning I packed up my gear and headed out solo. My goal was to reach Davis Lakes today, and eventually reach the footprint of the Lyell Glacier in Yosemite National Park in a few day time, all while avoiding trails as much as possible.
At one point on the first day I did meet another backpacker who was going the same way as me for a short distance so we hiked together. He was doing the Sierra High Route that i had done in 2016 and he was glad to get some first hand knowledge of where he was headed. Shortly after this First part of the video ended we went our separate ways, he headed up North Glacier Pass to Lake Catherine and I continued to Davis Lakes.
