Fern, any of several nonflowering vascular plants that possess true roots, stems, and complex leaves and that reproduce by spores. They belong to the lower vascular plant division Pteridophyta, having leaves usually with branching vein systems; the young leaves usually unroll from a tight fiddlehead, or crozier. The number of fern species is about 9,000, but estimates have ranged to as high as 15,000, the number varying because certain groups are as yet poorly studied and because new species are still being found in unexplored tropical areas. The ferns constitute an ancient division of vascular plants, some of them as old as the Carboniferous Period (beginning about 359 million years ago) and perhaps older. Their type of life cycle, dependent upon spores for dispersal, long preceded the seed-plant life cycle. Another informal name for the group, monilophytes, has gained currency in modern botanical literature. Source: Encyclopædia Britannica

we are so lucky to have this world-class museum in salem

Built at the Supermarine factory at Southampton, N3200 made its first flight on 29th November 1939 and after storage, was delivered to 19 Squadron at Duxford on 19th April 1940. When flying from RAF Hornchurch in the hands of Sqn. Ldr. G D Stephenson, it was shot down and made a wheels up landing on the beach near Sangatte, France on 25th May 1940. Covered by the sea and sand, the wreck was forgotten until discovered and recovered in 1986. Acquired by the current owner in 2000 the Spitfire was brought to Duxford and rebuilt by Historic Flying Ltd. It made its first flight on 26th March 2014 in the hands of John Romain.

Part 3 of a memorable summer vacation..MRL was paying off HPH with a trio of SD40-2XRs and they were had just been put out onto the BNSF out of Laurel, MT. A few nights previous, I had run into the trio sitting in Greybull Yard, MT after arriving on their first assignment which was a H LAUGRW4 12. They were picked up by a H DENLAU1 13 back to Laurel. After proposing to my girlfriend and venturing into Yellowstone for a few days, we set up for a few nights in Helena. After receiving 2 heads up from Mr. Welch and Mr. Seely, the morning looked to be changing into a lucky one as M LAUSPO1 15 had departed and was coming with the trio of MRL SD40-2XRs 251, 255, and 260. I woke up early to find out that they had taken a hit at Livingston adding MRL SD70ACE 4300 and were slowly coming across Bozeman Pass due to coal load in front of it and heavy opposition. I was able to avoid no shot at all and it was starting to look like a "OK" shot mid morning coming down the west side of Mullan Pass. After some great up to date work by ER and AS, the train was coming into town just as I was given the pass to leave the hotel and let the other half watch bridal shows, etc. I was able to get out to West Blossburg to shoot the train the first time and then to Elliston for the second shot of the 60 car freight. I was able to get one more roll by of them coming west just out of Avon after meeting the HPASKCK9 14 at Avon. The light was a little higher then I wanted but with what I had, it had to be done.

Say mashallah (AA) !

Looks as though Cold's reflexes have gotten better since his last encounter with a speedster.

I wanted to show off some more of the ice gun and what it can do. We got just a glimpse of it last time ( www.flickr.com/photos/thebritishbafoon/12078333064/ ) with a narrow escape from Barry. Shooting in a pitch-black room, I used a small LED to shine through the blast and I ended up with the coolest refracted light effect I've worked with thus far.

It's anyone's fight now, but who will come out on top?

Part's three and four will only tell!

Partiendo de una imagen con mejores reflejos, cuidando un poquito mas el procesado y dándole uno tono pelin mas frío, otra variante de la anterior. Vosotros diréis.

Saludos y gracias por pasar.

This chilling fight is neck and neck still, but looks as though Zoom might be making a comeback!

We can only wait and see what happens! Stay tuned tomorrow for Part 4!

Part of the view from Scout Scar - a limestone escarpment near Kendal which has wonderful photographic possibilities and is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Still exploring the possibilities of the 5D Mark2. The FF certainly brings out a lot more detail. It's a more 'fussy' camera than the 450D and focusing has to be much more accurate but I think I am slowly taming it and relaxing into using it. My two main lenses the 24-105 and 70-200 compliment the camera well and are both excellent lenses. Just need the 17-40 now! (hum - already broke the bank so may have to wait a loooong time for this)

This gorgeous bird is part of an educational organiztion called "Hawks Aloft". It has an injured wing so is no longer able to survive in the wild. This beautiful creature gets two mice a day which contain everything it needs for a healthy diet. Thank you Hawks Alot for bring these guys out to be photographed by the Enchanted Lens Camera Club.

My "Part Two" of my GC4 Saga. :)

Sir Angus, Morgan, and Jeremy all gave a bittersweet farewell to their beloved parents. Brother Steven, who was also there, would be given temporary charge of the city, along with all his fellow monks of the chapel of St. Jonah.

It was not just Sir Angus's family that bid the knights farewell... nearly half the city had gathered at the port of Rothberg to bid goodbye the highlander army as the soldiers boarded the government transport ship... the "Sea Dragon" captained by Johann Wentworth.

Their destination was unknown, as they were to rendezvous with another Garheim force... from there, they were to attack a city, as yet unnamed. Everything was kept hush-hush, for fear of the plans leaking out.

FOURTH WALL COMMENTARY:

I didn't want a lengthy description for this scene. Instead, I hope this MOC speaks for itself. I finally got around to posting it, as I've been incredibly busy lately with Warfare by Duct Tape stuff. :) Stay tuned for more!

The new Transparent Opal bricks from set 11033 "Creative Fantasy Universe" use a new mould number for the transparent 2x4 bricks.

Because the moulding properties of different materials are different, it is common for transparent parts to use specific moulds with a separate design number.

Q-elements made in the regular ABS-moulds probably do not meet all LEGO's strict requirements, which is probably why they were not used in sets for decades. I hope that we will see more transparent bricks not LEGO is using MABS for their transparent parts and have made a specific 2x4 brick mould to be used with that material.

This is a brick without cross-support. I guess that is for aesthetic reasons, transparent bricks will look better without.

Part of the museum displays show the old Army officer's quarters at the site. Looking in those I saw this creepy ass doll.

Have you ever seen something and had a cold chill run through you when you saw it? This thing did it to me.

Don't ask me why because I can't tell you but something about this just creeps the hell out of me. Like it's haunted or something.

The Colorado River State Historic Park, which is located next to the Yuma AZ Territorial Prison Museum.

The Colorado River State Historic Park tells the story of the past, present, and future of the Colorado River, and its role in the settlement and development of both Yuma and the larger Southwest. This place started out as as US Army Depot.

Since it's right next door to the prison it made for an easy stop. Pretty interesting to see how the river shaped the desert and made it much more habitable.
