LX x 3

I really just want one fully working camera.

So recently, thanks to the bay, a camera to tinker with as a project to unravel the mystery of what goes bad and where. Who knows, I could end up with 3 working bodies if all goes well?

When the other (ME Super) project end at the blog, the LX project will start up right behind it. Please come visit later to see what kind of trouble I get myself into digging around in the complex insides of the LX camera. At current speed the ME Super project should be over by September to November depending what I find inside.

The violin song again...Why do I bother to do this?

My beloved LX was a joy from when I first got it... around 1981/82 on. Unfortunately, sooner or later... 1996-ish it started to show "the signs" and I limped it until 2000. Following bad advise and my bad decision, I looked for a local repair shop who could broker the repair... claimed "Authorized Pentax" service. I ended up at "Camera Craftsman"... the start of the downward spiral.

He claimed he could not do anything for it and would ship it to Pentax...$$

Then he later claimed Pentax contacted him to say that it had to go to Japan...$$$

Then it came back two months later, but the speed flag was stuck or dead...$$

Then it was gone for another month...$$

Then it returned as was supposedly working.

Then all the symptoms return after a month.

Then I returned to the establishment and he claimed he didn't recognized the camera or the work order or me and threatened to call the cops.

Then a year later I discovered the original seals were all still there and breached. As well as the original bumpers were still installed and a tear in my titanium shutter... discovered a piece of two sided tape inside my film chamber...dried out looking. ...So I paid him almost a total of $400 dollars to destroy my camera.

This is why I took up camera repair as a hobby.

UPDATE: I've been ill and under medical care for a while and bouncing back slowly. The LX Project will continue soon and I'll try to start from the very beginning again.

UPDATE: So the Project was started again. The idea of making my own bumpers and pads has made some progress and when camera #3 is fully working again, I'll start on #2 (Peter's old LX) since its show a decayed inner bumper just under the 'Auto-Aperture' lever. The other pads and foam have been replaced.

UPDATE: Since the last time, I finished the LX Dave first, LX Peter is next and due to an issue with the auto mode it will be LX Japan as the last body. My long time LX has been retired due to a torn shutter that can no long be patched.
