Lumpy Littleput

by jwc 3o2

Lumpy Littleput is (at the idealized moment) an 18-hole, par-5o guerrilla minigolfcourse constructed in rural Ottawa.
it begins beside the "Bush Art Garden", climbs almost immediately to the "peak" of Mount Billy (the highest local point) & utilizes found features (& some imported ones) to meander up down & around through a series of seismic stone shelving, crossing itself twice & ultimately returning to where it began. its surface is almost entirely raked dirt & is compromised every night by the little lumps worms create when they surface (players are encouraged to check for these & step on them to flatten them out again before teeing off).
as much as it's "finished" enough to play, it will probably always be "in progress": better banks, berms & barriers; further hazards; various protruding roots removed (some left in as deliberate hazards) & other surface smoothments; alternative routes improved & other etceteræ both already-planned & as-yet-unimagined (there will be no windmill [though y'never know whatcha might find on garbage night]).
ideally, there is no stroke limit & the difficulty level is veryvery high, it being relatively common to require 1o strokes or more to complete a par 3 hole. that said, all set pars are, in fact, achievable & fully half the holes have hole-in-one possibilities.
note that the obstructive flags are temporary for the purpose only of this photodocumentation. also, the dirt is still settling so many cups have exposed lips that get rectified as they occur as we play.
Big ThankYous to Blitz, John 2, Lui & Roman for donations of golfballs, Tobin Grimshaw for some clubs, & Thomas Brethour for an ancient, wood-shaft putter. also thanks to "MT", whomsoever that may be, who left a trio of wedges outside my door with a note.
[footonote:
it is admitted that these aren't the best photographs of the course & how it actually functions & represent only 2o23's 1st provisional "completion" of the basic groundplan.
2o24 has seen many revisions to the playing field & a new set of descriptive photographs & quickvideos will be added as they become available.]
