The Great Seal 2983

It's always wonderful to see something new for the first time. It was more than simply great to see this harbor seal lounging on a New Jersey beach yesterday morning, in the early morning hours. Harbor seals are fairly common, and I have seen many swimming in the coastal waters of New Jersey, but I've never seen one on the beach. In the United States it is illegal to hunt seals. They are protected by the Marine Mammals Protection Act of 1972. They spend most of their time in the water, but will haul-out to rest ashore for a variety of reasons. It is rare to see them do so, however, in the presence of humans (at least in this part of the country). Perhaps I simply need to get out in the early morning more often! #ILoveWildlife #ILoveNature #WildlifePhotography in #NewJersey #Nature in #America #USA #HarborSeals #CommonSeals #Canon #Bringit #DrDADBooks #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday
