A young big horn sheep nibbles at the remains of summer's dry grasses not far from Yellowstone's North entrance. As the weather grows harsh, and the snows begin to accumulate, big horn sheep descend from their summer retreats high up in the mountains to lower altitudes. Here they can still find some of the grasses that they need for sustenance. Winter's dry grasses don't have all the nutritional value of those found in growing months, but together with the fat they store during the early season, it helps them survive. The little horns on the young sheep will grow much larger with time.
