Perhaps because of their large numbers, or perhaps simply because of their overall visibility, coots just don't seem to get a lot of attention. They are members of the rail family, but unlike most rails, that tend to be timid and hard to see, coots seem relatively oblivious to humans. They are frequently the closest birds on the water, and go about their business unfettered by human proximity. Unlike ducks, they are fast on the ground, and although they have short weak wings, they are also fast in the air. Coots are omnivorous and will eat just about anything they find in the marshes, from plants to small insects, animals, and eggs. Next time you're at the refuge, give a hoot for a coot! #ILoveNature #ILoveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #NewMexico #Nature in #America #USA #Coots #Rails #Birds #Canon #Bringit #DrDADBooks. #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday
