Ceiling of the ancient "Lanterne des Morts" (Sarlat-la-Canéda/FR)
Ceiling of the ancient "Lanterne des Morts" (Lantern of the Dead) 12th century tower. It's linked in history to the abbot Bernard of Clairvaux who playes a major role in the second cruisade and build in 1147 by the Knights Templar. It consists of two rooms, though the upper room is inaccesible to people. Standing inside it feels like a space still wayback in late medieval history.

Sarlat-la-Canéda - a very popular town in the Périgord Noir. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings, with 77 protected monuments it's on the list of France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Largely car-free with lots of narrow ancient streets and small stores, an absolute pleasure to walk through and to discover.
