Open for Lunch
Day 283 of 365
"Open for Lunch"
Today's portrait is of our old friend, Dionaea muscipula. When we visited her last, she was just enjoying a fresh catch. Today, I wanted to play around with focus stacking. As I've mentioned before, the process involves shooting several exposures, while changing focus for each one. When they are stacked in post, the entire image is in focus. When using a macro lens up close, there is a very shallow depth of field. Therefore, stacking is the only way to achieve a completely in-focus image. I was about to pat myself on the back once I got to my computer...but quickly realized it was not justified. While I am happy with the image, the trigger hairs are not in focus. Ha! My only defense is that it is very difficult to see the minute details on the back of the camera. Regardless, I'm still happy enough. Our subject was lit with two lights. Our key light is a softbox, and it is directly behind and almost above the plant. Secondly, there is a finely snooted speedlight behind and below her. This light highlights the stem and the bottom of our little friend. Thanks for dropping in!!
