Day 124 of 365
"Blowing Smoke in My Own Face"
While searching online for some fun science projects for my 4-year-old, I discovered a world of nerd-based youtube videos of people doing rather remarkable things. Among the myriad of bizarre videos, I came upon a video of a guy creating smoke rings with a water bottle, a balloon and some burning paper. Naturally, I decided this was the project for my daughter!! Actually, it was perfect for a daily posting. So, here it is. With camera remote in my mouth, I set up a strobe beneath my camera's lens, and methodically "shot" smoke rings at the lens. When I estimated the smoke ring was above the strobe, I would set off the camera. It obviously took several exposures before I nailed it. While I did all I could to avoid being seen in the final image, I ended up accepting it, and I will say it is part of my "out of focus" series. I will inevitably use this technique again in a more elaborate fashion. Anyway, thanks for checking out my smoke signals!!
