Peony 'Buckeye Bell' (Mains 1956) is a 24" semi-double hybrid (officinalis x albiflora). Dark red, medium sized flower. Wide outer petals and narrow center petals, interspersed with stamens, yellow anthers and red filaments. Carpels covered by petals. Walter Mains from Belle Center, Ohio introduced about 20 peonies in the mid 1950-60s. Only 'Buckeye Belle' and 'Walter Mains' are currently listed by Klehm Nursery.

Flower is one of the darker reds in my garden. Stems ~32 inches in 2020. I assume that the name referrs to the Ohio State Buckeyes. I live in Michigan, but I do like this peony:) Not all that early?
