Genus Alcea has ~60 species of flowering plants in the mallow family Malvaceae. Most species are native to southwest and central Asia, a few are native to Egypt. A biennial or short-lived perennial. Hollyhocks are old garden favorites. Popular plant for the cottage garden. Mine self seed & show up in different parts of the garden. Quite tall.
