1973 or '74 7Up UnCola "See The Light" by Canadian artist Heather Cooper. Her embroidered signature is in the bottom left corner.
60" x 45" poster (not for sale).
This is #2 of 3 different stunning posters that just arrived in their original Seven Up time capsule mailing tube postmarked JUL 17, 1974. All 3 are in unused, never folded, rolled, MINT condition. Each is also the 2nd of ONLY 2 KNOWN COPIES*.
* Note: poster #3 of 3 (not yet posted) has a 3rd known twin copy that's in the permanent collection at MOMA. Check back later to see it.
This poster is actually a photograph of an embroidered original. Per Heather in an email to me:
"The concept came from the [J Walter Thompson (JWT) ] ad agency, it is not something I would normally create. The plan was to produce a TV commercial, they hired a model that pretended to be the artist, I was on set to make sure nothing went wrong, artwork wise. You may or may not enjoy this detail, butterflies were migrating through Chicago at this point in time and there were opportunities to catch one or two and let them go in the space where we were shooting. I can't remember if we did this or not, in any event it was not a thing that can be controlled. The butterflies do not respond to instruction."
I'd love to see the TV ad.
