Making a Pick-Up at Houston

After the westbound Sunset Limited made its station stop in Houston, the crew exited their locomotives (at left) and climbed aboard AMTK 43 (at right).

AMTK 43 had been set-out 9 days earlier after experiencing electrical issues in a traction motor. After a contract crew came out and replaced the traction motor, the next Sunset Limited through town stopped and picked-up the now-repaired locomotive.

Here, the train crew is performing their initial check-out and firing up the PTC on AMTK 43. They'll soon bring it out of the depot track and attach it to the front of their consist. But first they'll need to bring it past these private cars at walking speed. The Patrick Henry cars here were set-out after AMTK 43 was set-out, and the clearance left to get the P42 out ended up being real tight.
