Liberty Depot

Built to replace the original that burned down in a fire 1925, this Texas & New Orleans/Southern Pacific depot still stands today in the small town of Liberty, about halfway between Houston and Beaumont. It underwent restoration and received a new coat of paint about 15 years ago, though that paint is starting to fade a bit now.

The station still sits in its original location, right next to the busy Sunset Route main now owned by Union Pacific. And nowadays there's all sorts of varieties in railroads here too. Amtrak operates its Sunset Limited and each day sees trains from BNSF and CPKC as well.

But something that happens a little less often is the passing of a steam engine. In fact, it had been 20 years since UP 3985 passed this depot in June of 2004. But here's the newest occurrence as CP 2816 rolls past the nearly 100-year old structure. In fact, that depot is probably the only thing in this picture older than the steam engine!
