One year ago today.
Early departure out of San Luis Potosi, our first spot was south of the Villa de Reyes station thanks to the suggestion of some good friends that were already there.
Rather "dry" chase thanks to the track running in the middle of nowhere and the train running track speed the whole time.
The chase also ended up getting cut shorter than expected thanks to a big wreck on the highway in San Juan del Rio, but still a heck of a day full of adrenaline.
Villa de Reyes, SLP.
The Empress and company round the curve just outside the south portal of Tunnel No. 2 as they get closer to Benjamin Mendez, where a fresh crew will get on-board and the 2816 will get inspected before continuing to SLP.

Arriving with barely any seconds to spare to the Highway 57 overpass, we joined hundreds of people that were waiting to see The Empress fly by on it's way to Mexico City.

On August 4, Canadian Pacific (I ain't writing CPKC) 4-6-4 2816 made a test run from Lethbridge to Calgary, Alberta. While the light was tough for a morning northbound on the Aldersyde Sub, I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to see this classy locomotive strut its stuff. I was especially antsy to see the locomotive since the one time I almost saw it 10 years ago, it got yanked off the train a few days before, much to my dismay. CP 2816 North is seen near Whitney, Alberta, just north of Kipp Yard.
While a large group of us waited at Kains under thick clouds for well over an hour for the 2816 to meet 260, I don’t think any of us could predicted what would happen next. A sketchy weather system finally opened up just north of the Iowa border, and the rest of the evening on the north end of the Marquette Sub and the bottom end of the River Sub was covered in incredible light. I’m just glad I didn’t bail.
CPKC train B-40B leaves the Monterrey city behind as it passes the PK B-992, where some glass and steel factories are located on the left side of the track.

Restored Canadian Pacific Hudson #2816 rolls through the outskirts of Calgary Alberta at the railway location of Beddington. The kettle spent two days this September on a test run from Calgary to Edmonton and return, bringing a hoard of railfans trackside. For some reason, only myself, two friends, and this unknown couple were on hand to witness te 2816's passage.
Just shy of 12 hours before all the madness started, the B-40B takes a rest near the north end side of the Monterrey yard after their private event.

With an On Time departure out of San Luis Potosi, the Empress and company waste no time as they make their way past the Villa de Reyes siding doing every bit of track speed, as they race bound for their final destination: Mexico City!
