year ago before the actual...

1 year ago before the actual story.... I was walking fast while replying to all my messages on the phone. Suddenly, an unfamiliar number appeared on my screen and I accidentally answered it. "Alessandra, speaking," I spoke. "Hey, bae." a very familiar voice answered on the other line.

Bae was so 9 years ago. And there was only one person who called me that. He was 8 years younger when I met him. I was working as sales manager that time and he was an intern at a law firm. The first time I met him, he was really sweaty. I had him waiting for 30 minutes. Oh, I was really far from the city and I had to take the train. But his elegance, his smile and his beautiful face just made me regret being so late. I knew he was pissed off, but he started talking like he was not. He was talking about his Chinese class that he went for the first time. That was the first time I heard his voice.

I was wondering a few weeks ago on when would I hear his voice again. I missed his face. I missed his voice, his smile, his naughty stares and him. And now, he suddenly called. "Danny?" I asked. It was a very hot and humid day. I was trying to cross the street from my one laundry shop to another. The 10-year old machine stopped working. I knew I should have called the manufacturer. "Yes. How are you bae?" he asked. "Oh, I am not expecting your call. Are you okay?" I replied. But that time, I was almost going to faint. Damn, it has been ages since he left Taipei. And from there, we stopped talking. His family did not want him to have an Asian girlfriend, especially an older one. Of course. "Yes, I am, indeed. Thank you," he added. "So what's going on?" I hesitantly replied. "I am getting married," he replied softly.

When I heard his last few words, my world just abruptly stopped. Literally. And too late I realized that I was in the middle of the street. When everything was audible and visible again, I heard a white car honking loudly, approaching to where I was standing. "Damn it!", my last words. (To be continued...)
