… One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead

I met a girl there

And she almost knocked me dead

(Punk rock girl) please, look at me

(Punk rock girl) what do you see?

Let's travel round the world

Just you and me, punk rock girl

This picture was made for the magazine MANN in Norway. Kristopher says "I feel like a 70 year old man in a 40 year old body". The idea (zipper) itself is not an idea of mine, it's all done before. But when a client wants something, you want to make them happy :)

There is a short video on how I made this picture on my FACEBOOK page for those of you who are interested in that.

ZipperHead 8000x6000px by KareAnn. (He's my better half. He let's me do this silliness with his pictures. :)

So I was slow posting things lately and really not active at all. As you can see there is a reason why I was out of commission for a bit. I had to undergo a brain surgery to fix a problem with my cerebellum sitting to low in my scull ( Arnold Chiari Malformation ).

all went well and I am recovering fasten then excepted. I am dying to go out and snap the day away and will slowly come back to full force. Thanks for viewing and thanks for always checking out my photos!

your zipperhead thomas

Zipperhead was a a punk and goth store that sold retail clothing and items to the punk and goth crowds.

What are little boys made of?

Frogs and snails

And puppy-dogs' tails,

That's what little boys are made of.

Another South Street icon bites the dust. At least the new shop left the giant creepy ants on the facade. And there is Crash, Bang, Boom - a very respectable spin-off shop, around the corner.

These are the giant ants that covered the facade of the Zipperhead store on South Street in Philadelphia until the store moved. After a rent increase, the owners relocated their establishment. It is at a new location, but calls itself Crash, Bang, Boom.

Thanks to my mom for the title of this one...

zipperhead (immortalized- well... referenced, anyway- in the song punk rock girl by the dead milkmen in the late 80's) turned out to be little more than an s&m-y, leather/punk boutique turned cheezy hot topic knock-off. it was somewhat disappointing to see the actual place because i guess i was expecting some awesome place and it was just a tiny, hole in the wall. oh well. we went to philly to see the dead milkmen play one of their two memorial shows november 2004 for bassist dave blood who ended his life earlier that same year. the whole event was kind of bittersweet. here's more about it

I tapped her on the shoulder

And said do you have a beau?

She looked at me and smiled and said she did not know

Punk rock girl

Give me a chance

Punk rock girl

Let's go slam dance

We'll dress like Minnie Pearl

Just you and me punk rock girl

We went to the Philly Pizza Company

And ordered some hot tea

The waitress said well no, we only have it iced

So we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy

And someone played a Beach Boys song on the jukebox

It was "California Dreamin"

So we started screamin

On such a winter's day

She took me to her parents for a Sunday meal

Her father took one look at me and he began to squeal

Punk rock girl

It makes no sense

Punk rock girl

Your dad is the vice president

Rich as the Duke of Earl

Yeah you're for me punk rock girl

We went to a shopping mall

And laughed at all the shoppers

And security guards trailed us to a record shop

We asked for Mojo Nixon

They said he don't work here

We said if you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could usesome fixin'

We got into her car away we started rollin'

I said how much you pay for this

She Said nothin man it's stolen

Punk rock girl

You look so wild

Let's have a child

We'll name her Minnie Pearl

Just you and me

Eat fudge banana swirl

Just you and me

We'll travel round the world

Just you and me

Punk Rock Girl-- The Dead Milkmen

Camden High Street is like the punk version of hippie Haight-Ashbury... they really just are all about the punk shops. It seemed like almost every shop on CHS carried the same range of shoes (New Rocks, chelsea boots, fetish heels, docs, etc), t-shirts, and tourist items, and quite a few sported elaborate fronts (see the next few photos).

Since I grew up around Philly it was like an entire street full of Zipperheads.

The town I work in started a tradition about 6 years ago of having a trick or treat down Main Street. Kids come to Machias from the surrounding towns to have a safe and un trick or treating experience. Most of the local stores participate and the tradition has become very popular. The first years about 200 kids came and now we have more than 600 children of all ages participating. Many of the parents dress up, too. It is a great way for the younger kids to get out with their folks early and avoid having togo out in the dark around neighborhoods. A lot of the older kids still make the rounds especially if the T or T down Main street doesn't actually fall on Halloween day as it did this year. One parent suggested on Facebook that people help out the stores by donating some candy to them as it is pretty expensive to feed that many kids. This year I got enough donated that I only had to buy one bag as added insurance that I wouldn't run out. I also had two people come and help hand out the candy as my shop was still open. It was great fun! More photos on my photostream.

(So the sign says)...and who could blame them!? That's one heck of a bug problem!

It was hard to get a good photo of the whole thing. The giant ants are awesome though.
