Looking down my Hill in dappled sunshine, over the green pastures and the soon-to-bud indigenous broadleaf trees, yesterday…I was thinking about the peace and quiet, here - and the not so peaceful time in Ukraine.

Here, I was standing next to a huge 150+ year old badger sett, behind my house, in which, currently, there are lots of new mothers with tiny wee new cubs, huddled in the warmth and darkness.

The differences between the two scenes, one in front of me, and the other across a continent, was jarring and heart-wrenching.

Early during spring migration, I hear "Drink Your Tea" outside my window. I go look and happily find this Eastern Towhee scratching around frantically in the mulch. Joyous Spring!

Most Owls are active at dusk and dawn, like this Snowy owl, spending the daytime at a quiet, inconspicuous roost. Their daily activity begins with preening, stretching, yawning and combing its head with its claws. The plumage is often ruffled up, and claws and toes are cleaned by nibbling with the beak.
