It has been such a privilege to follow the progress of this beauty through my trail cam and regular visits. About ten days to go before this little beauty fledges.

They are always very relaxes in my company.

Only one of two eggs hatched.

I estimate this one is about six days old!

My first sighting of a Cheetah in nearly 3 years. I was the second or third person to enter the Reserve at Phalaborwa this morning and the first one at this particular spot where I came across a mother and her two youngsters. The early bird catches the worm, they say.

Dit was zo bijzonder om te zien dat een Ooievaars familie zich had genesteld midden in het toch wel drukke Blokzijl , ze trokken zich ook echt nergens wat van aan .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was so special to see that a Stork family had nestled in the middle of busy Blokzijl, they really didn't care about anything

Two new Sand Hill Cranes

From Cornell Ornithology Lab:

... some start breeding at two years of age, (some) may reach the age of seven before breeding. They mate for life—which can mean two decades or more—and stay with their mates year-round. Juveniles stick close by their parents for 9 or 10 months after hatching.

The earliest Sandhill Crane fossil, estimated to be 2.5 million years old, was unearthed in the Macasphalt Shell Pit in Florida.

Sandhill Crane chicks can leave the nest within 8 hours of hatching, and are even capable of swimming.

A few weeks ago, I lingered too long in one spot for the comfort of a song sparrow with lots of bugs in its beak. Stopped by the same place a few days ago, and saw this young song sparrow, even making short flights between the branches! They grow so fast!!!

A Great Blue Heron female standing over her newborn chicks waiting for the male to bring food for the youngsters. The breeding plumage creates a whole new look for this species.

Spotted (no pun intended) this young American robin in one of the cherry trees, enjoying a sweet meal.

This White-tailed Deer youngster was caught in this pic as many of the young kids today, tongue sticking out for a photo. :-p

The young buck appears to be around 20 months old based on the antler size and formation, according to some info on the web.

only one was curious enough to pick its head up from grazing...

I thought our garden Sparrowhawk had forgotten about us as we have not seen it for months. As I was sitting in my office at home I heard a commotion in the garden and straight away thought I know what that sounds like. Unfortunately we are now one less Starling youngster and I could only get a shot through the window.

Many thanks to everyone that views and comments on my images - very much appreciated.

A pair of goslings was accompanying their parents in Tom McCall Waterfront Park while I was on my walk. I think they're so cute at this age!

Along with our 4 adult buddies we now have 3 youngsters. They aren't ready to make friends with me yet and I can't tell if they are male or female. Gosh, they are so sweet!

Wanting to bring awareness of the beauty of these magnificent birds, who are still under threat because of our lack of care and stewardship or our environment.

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

An American Coot (Fulica americana) young perches on a floating cattail stalk in a wetland to the west of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

There is something about a young coot's colours that sets it apart from other young waterbirds.

If you look closely on the end of the upper bill near the black tip, you will see a tiny white bump. This is called the egg tooth which it uses to scar the inside of the egg in a circular pattern which enables it to crack the egg open to hatch.

Some more Short-eared Owl shots. I suspect these MAY be recently fledged birds, especially the flying one as every feather looks sharp and new. There were 4, possibly 5 birds indicating that some of the youngsters have fledged.

Having the fox family visit has been a highlight this year the only problem is I only see mum now and I worry that the children are ok yes stupid i know.

Last in my series of my encounter with this family of Elk. The Mother had gathered the youngsters and were giving me one last look before they would exit the scene altogether. Without a doubt my favorite of all of the shots that I got of the encounter.

It would have been nice to have had a longer lens set up but I am not complaining. Frosty surroundings, soft light and close to an unobstructed view...pretty tough to have asked for anything more. I felt very lucky.

Living in Florida I don't have any shots of fall colors to take, so had to dig in the archives from when I was on a deployment. I did manage to find a few that I like. Will try and catch up with everyone tonight.

Great to see this youngster at my local gravel pit. I hope it makes it to join the post-breeding Lapwing that have already arrived.
