Baby Lewis in Franciscan Desert Rose teacup. Lewis and his sibling and mother were rescued by me. Once the youngin's, Lewis and Clark, reached maturity, I had them spyed/neutered and adopted them to new homes. Mom, Meriweather, was also adopted to a wonderful home. Juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Thank you for taking the time to view!
Not as mobile as the youngins, the elderly remain at the top of the stilt houses at Chong Kneas Floating Village, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.
My attempt at the "Looking close... on Friday" theme "Ice Cream".
So... (old man voice on) let me tell you one or two things about shooting ice cream:
Firstly, if you think you are good at estimating how much time you've got: You're not! You don't have anywhere near as long as you imagine... cut it in half and we're maybe getting there!
Secondly, you can't balance the damn thing! Don't even think about it, stop it right now! All the weight is at the top... it's like a toddler, starting to walk, it's a matter of milliseconds before the next fall.
And the last thing: Don't ever believe you're getting away without creating a mess. Just DON'T! Godspeed youngins, godspeed!
Shot with a "Tomioka-Copal 71 mm F 4" (enlarging) lens on a Canon EOS R5.
A younger Bald Eagle flying by for a look.
I would venture a guess that he is around the 3 1/2 years old mark. It usually takes 5 years before their heads are all white.
we sit and watch them as often as we can, of course depending on the winds...sometimes it's just too windy to get out there.
well, it did take him a lot longer to try to fly than I thought it would. He was so bold here, but it took a few more weeks for him to actually fledge! Both youngins' have succeeded in fledging at this point in time!
One of many I am blessed with in the front and back yards of my home. They are quite the characters, and fast! They fly like bullets! They enjoy the "hot" suet cakes so much. I have these out back. This one's not too old I don't think, but not a youngin' either. Blessed with birds in the back yard lately.
making sure older juveniles keep their distance....etc. but in this shot Mum was watching the youngins' and Dad went and caught a meal...they often seem to just feed what is in the nest not the new food brought in....

And so another bear season starts. We have mom (the cubs are up the tree) making sure i do not harass the youngins.
It was tucked way back in the Senna bush/tree ... all puffed up keeping out the weather. Tiny little creature, but with its feathers all puffed up, looked twice its size. As intended ....
When I was a youngin' ( many years ago ) a writer in the local paper always mentioned in her column that she and her husband went motoring in a certain area the past weekend. I always got a chuckle out of her way of expressing herself and it came to mind when I saw this photo on my camera.
in flew an adult, never far away from the youngins' ... beautiful iridescence showing on this adult.

Out front this time and oh so close to one of the sprinklers! Wow! And seems to love it! They are so precious!

I was pulling out of a parking lot when I spotted a Killdeer standing right at the side of the road so I rolled up as I swung my camera out the window, as soon as I looked down I started laughing because she had too many legs, I really wanted to get a shot of that youngin under her wing but the reason it was under there in the first place was because it was raining, little Killdeer down isn't very good at keeping them dry and they immediately dive under the parents as soon as it starts too rain so I kept going and left the little one safe and dry under her wing.

I love this species. They are elegant looking I think. The males are so extraordinary. I think these might be non-breeding adults or youngins' ... not sure.
Maxine, single mom of 2 youngins which are flying now taking a bath in runoff from the park sprinkler system.
If you zoom in, you can see the tomial tooth, which is used to sever the spinal cord of prey.

Out back. There's so many of them, with the new youngins' growing up so fast. They dart around and play with each other.
These ones were on the ground wandering on Buckshot Lake Road and of course stopping traffic (not that there is a lot of it at around 7:00 am up here).
Another group were making large circles in the air trying to get the "youngin's" to ensure they knew how to fly in the V formation as they will be leaving at some point soon is my theory.
I want to thank each and everyone who took the time to visit my little space here on Flickr. Have a super day!
Taken at the Appalachian Museum in Norris Tennessee...
The homes were not very big at all, and everything was stored, in one or two rooms, counting you and the youngins too ...
No, Usually the kids, slept up in a loft, which required a wooden ladder to climb you just can't see that here ...
HAPPY NEW WEEK TO YOU !!!!
his parents were on a cruise so he had a house party, but damn the youngin's i was gettin hit on by a ton of 16-17 year old girls there, ironically it being a gay man's birthday party and also me being preferably gay too.... but a fun b-day bash, for as long as i was there.... met this kid when he was 16 himself and he hasn't changed a bit since.... LOL
One more from Montana. Devin, 7 years old and so full of wonder, unleashes into a tirade of happiness, warmth, and hope. Hooray for the youngins!
Mom or dad Osprey dropping breakfast off to the 2 youngins across the street from our Air BNB in Pensacola.
Talcott Mountain State Park, Simsbury, CT.
I found two youngins who were gracious enough to let me watch their extremely amateur morning hunt. Unfortunately, the light was horrendous due to this being on the West face of the mountain on a cloudy morning. So no action shots.
This was my first time hearing the hunger calls of a juvenile barred owl, which is a faint wheeze, unlike the piercing shrill of a young red-tailed hawk.
