Salone del Mobile - Milano Rho
Satellite Pavillion
Carrying on my photo reportage on the Milano Design Week, two huge installations with Sun and Moon, seen at the Satellite Pavillion, a special hall dedicated to young designers.
My photo: has been obtained by two panos, then merged together to show both planets in the same image (accordingly to the sustainable philosophy and spare on the limited up-loads quota. I think, anyway, that, combining the two visions makes a bigger impact. Viewers could see them both in the same area but, as they were so big and suspended in a very wide pavillion, it would have been impossible to capture them well in the same photo).
The spotlights attached around the elliptical perimeter of the glass and aluminum roof and directed solely towards the planets, could make the scenario visibly three-dimensional and very spectacular by just illuminating the two huge spheres in an almost dark room.
My reportage and footage in the new Album entitled "Anteprima Design Week" will carry on with further up-loads in the next days.

My portrait of the Designer and Academy student Lūkass Segliņš exhibiting with about ten of his mates for the Art Academy of Latvia. (Here Lukass is posing for me next to the plaster cast of his face, so, 2 portraits in one ! But then I noticed his expression was smiling and different from the serious one of his plaster. So, we redid, lol, and he perfectly made the right expression ! See bottom right).
My visit at The Satellite has focused on the Exhibition held by the students of the AAL, the Academy for Arts and Design of Lituania.
The main theme was "the Crown" and every student has represented his/her ideas on this potent visual symbol, making a sculpture to be displayed suspended over their own heads. So, they conceived the cool creative idea to make their own face out of plaster as a head cast holding each personal representation of the crown. Every work has been aimed at depicting some social matters of the nowadays life.
Very cool the fact that any visitor was invited to approach the handy phone to the QR code of the most preferred sculpture and, via an instant app, to see their own face mirrored and framed with the chosen crown.
But those guys were not yet satisfied with it, they wanted any visitor brings home the preferred artwork/s ... So, every visitor was gifted of a special gift play card with the QR of the favorite sculpture, together with the contact info of the artist maker !
(I took home all the contact cards :-)
Some additional explanations found on the cards themselves: Art & Design always crowns the most creative & witty approach to problem solving, thus Art Academy of Latvia uses a crown as its visual symbol. AAL design students investigate what goes on in people's head in the context of challenges in our time. Despite overwhelming access to information, our views remain very narrow.
Surrounded by constant noise pollution, one cannot hear what is essential anymore (...) Many are the fragile matters to talk about.
I concluded my visit at the Salone del Mobile and the biennial EuroLuce Exhibition in Milano visiting the Satellite. Unfortunately the battery of my camera was at that point over and, since I was interviewing and shooting artists and their artworks, I had no time to quickly replace it . So, low battery = no possibility to adjust the manual setting for a best framing, therefore, the last 3-4 photos have not been brilliant but, still, I hold them for interesting under a documentaristic point of view.
In the next days, approaching the conclusion of my reportage & new Album "Anteprima Design Week" (Salone del Mobile - Milano, Rho), I will post the 3 sculptures that talked to me the most...

My visit at the exhibition of the AAL Art Academy Latvia (Lituania), entitled "What is in/on your head?"
The main theme was "the Crown" and every student has represented his/her ideas on this potent visual symbol, making a sculpture to be displayed suspended over their own heads. So, they conceived the smart creative idea to make their own face out of plaster as a head cast holding each personal representation of the crown. Every work has been aimed at depicting some social matters of the nowadays life.
In this photo: Artwork entitled "Would you confess your sins at a supermarket?" by Art Academy Latvia artist and student Emily Lynx (Emīlija Lūse) who interpreted her crown as a means for confession. Like for all the twelve crowns in the exhibition, she represents herself through her own real face plaster cast.
Her artwork, esp. the huge quantity of cash receipts and accounting tickets, surely evokes issues and matters linked to consumism and excessive use of technology.
Notice: for my actual abundant viewers - smile - in my photo I have added the QR code if you wish to visit the whole web site of the exhibition and try on one of the crown sculptures. (This sculpture is though not illustrated in their site, so, I publish it in exclusivity for Flickr ;-)
The crown as a means of expression has also been used in the additional graphic material supporting the exhibit, from the captions of every single sculpture to a pack of cards to be handed over to visitors who, anytime, even after their visit, can carry on the dialogue with the artworks via a QR code (see detail in my photo), that will take them to the Instagram account of the exhibition where they can try on on their mirrored face each one of the twelve crowns in augmented reality and reflect on the questions accompanying each of the crowns.
Few more pictures to conclude my reportage & new Album "Anteprima Design Week" (Salone del Mobile - Milano, Rho) are yet to come soon, probably still tomorrow, tuned !

My favorite gift for my tenth birthday...eh hem...back in, errrrrr, 1980. Promises of hundreds, thousands...even millions of fashionable combinations for "young designers ages 6 and up". Ah, the possibilities!
My niece, who had these on loan, has kindly returned them in spite of the fact that she still thinks they are "so cool". Thank you, sweetie!
Sigh! I wish I didn't have to work today...

This image wasn't featured in XO Magazine but it remains one of my favorites from the series. Model: Emma Hart @ Gingersnap Model Management
Designer: Ania Maria Rozanowska
Camera: Diana F+
Film: Portra 400
This is from the first shoot I have done with a model. I also designed and made the clothing he is wearing. It is part of a line of menswear that focuses on classic style, a well made product, and community interaction.
I had this editorial featuring model Emma Hart @ Gingersnap Model Management and Designer Ania Maria Rozanowska featured in the newest edition of XO Magazine
My dear Flickr friend, I will be away from your beautiful company for some ten days. Tomorrow, together with my students, other professors from Accademia Italiana Skopje and the stuff I am going in to a new Italian adventure. The final destination is my bellowed city of Florence, where we will participate in the final show and exhibition of Accademia Italiana. These snapshots are taken on some of the last collection lessons before living to Florence. They are made in great rush, just for our documentation, but with them I can offer you a tiny little preview on my students’ works. The students are quite excited because some of the famous guests of the show will be Vivienne Westwood and Eva Cavalli.
The snapshot placed on the left side is made by Mirjana Janešlieva, a graphic design student; the others are made by me. The model is Milena Atanasova, my fashion design student. As a said before, these photos don’t intend to be art, I conceder them an intimate exchange with you. See you again in 10 days!
