You know nobody's comfortable gettin' their picture taken like this.
Nobody.
That 35mm 1.4 fixed Nikkor lens really doesn't betray the intimacy of this moment.
I mean... take your thumb and put it on your nose... then extend your pinky... that's how far away from this guy my lens is.
The more someone is photographed... entertainers... actors and actresses... politicians...
the more they know that that ain't 'normal' photographic procedure.
'That's way too close buddy.'
I think what it does is that it gets behind the wall that these people are really proficient at throwin' up and that everyone throws up in one way or another.
What happens is that once I'm behind that wall people don't have the experience in manipulating their image the way that they're used to.
Stripped of that it's their humanity that comes out.
Somehow I've got the 'mojo' to pull it off...
where most people would just get their ass kicked.
Not that I haven't gotten my ass kicked a few times.
It's just exceedingly rare these days.
I've shot almost four thousand people this way.
It's awkward for them yeah... but it's painless... like the doctor givin' you a shot on the count of two when you think he's gonna count to three.
Afterwards I usually show them the shot on the back of the camera... in fact it's become kinda reflexive on my part... it just happens...
say something like 'it's time for your closeup'... move in close... shoot... back up... show them the shot real quick and then shoot their reaction for the 'bonus round.'
Very often that's the money shot.
I never ask them if it's alright.
I sorta telegraph what I'm gonna do and if I calculate that they're gonna hit me I back off... or if I see and extreme adverse reaction I just abort the mission.
No go.
I've fine tuned it with thousands of people and I got it down.
Performers and the famous are the hardest because they're so used to being photographed.
They gotta think 'WTF is this guy doing?'
Regular people just let me in without question 99.999% of the time.
Photographing people in a way that they're not used to being photographed produces results that are fascinating to me.
The 'closeness' isn't just a physical thing... a dimension in inches...
it's a closeness of soul that I have a harder time explaining.
I'd just got to Blues Fest and I had that goofy fake press pass.
I didn't wanna get all negative and wonder if it'd work so immediately I walked backstage...
right by security and popped this guy just to 'get that thought off my back.'
I was at Blues Fest for less than two minutes when I popped him and then I was backstage anytime I wanted that day.
I never let the 'doubt' build up.
You gotta BELIEVE.
You gotta believe in yourself.
You gotta believe that it's your DESTINY to take these shots.
You gotta believe that if you don't then no one else will.
Manifest Destiny.
And once you do...
once you believe it so deeply that it becomes a part of you...
everyone else will too.
Including your subjects.

No fin de semana tentei tirar foto de pássaros, mas sem condições de fazer isso com a lente q tenho. Se eu chego muito perto os pássaros voam, se bato a foto de longe fica horrível...
Ontem a noite, teve uma tempestade magnética aki perto de casa. Quase peguei um raio, mas meu pulso cansou de ficar na mesma posição por tanto tempo... Como eu queria um tripé !!!

E esse campo de Golg fica no Tarundu em Campos do Jordão. Lá andamos a cavalo, almoçamos e "não jogamos Golf" pq tivemos q sair correndo pra fugir da chuva. O tempo fechou grandaum... Mas mesmo se naum chovesse eu nem ia jogar Golf, nem tava a fim e também nem sei jogar, huhuhuhuhuhu !!!

Today I received confirmation that yet another word from the mind of Viewminder has officially become part of the English lexicon.
Though it's not as cool as the word 'lexicon'...
I think it's deep... meaningful and timely.
I think like me a lot of people are worried about all of the crazy shit that they're doing to the food that we eat.
It's like they think of us as lab rats I think sometimes.
They do a lot of things with our food that isn't cool...
genetic engineering... chemical additives and preservatives with names we can't pronounce as well as modify it or grow it in what amounts to laboratories.
I thought that there needed to be a word that collectively described all of this bullshit that they do to the stuff that we eat...
Behold Viewminder's latest word creation...
'Genetified.'
I think it's pretty good.
And I bet it'll catch on.
It pretty much covers all the crazy ways that producers manipulate the things that we eat.
It's the second time this year a word that I created has been published.
Pretty soon academia will no longer be able to ignore my accomplishments!
That guidance counselor... who shall remain unnamed... the one who said I should become a 'welder'...

To quit or not to quit? That has been my question. For over a year, actually. But, after balancing the pros and cons of smoking (which obviously weighed heavy on the cons side) and journaling each cigarette I smoke for the past several weeks, I have finally made the decison to quit. Of course, what good is a decision without taking action, right?
I'm reminded of the old adage which goes something like this: Three frogs were sitting on a log. Two made a decision to jump. How many were left? One? Wrong. The two frogs only made a decision to jump; they did not actually do it. All three are still sitting on the log.
So, here's the deal... Today, I have made the decision to stop smoking. Tomorrow (don't laugh), I'm going to actually do it. And, as part of my journey I'm going to add a counter with my 365 project which will tally my smoke free days. The way I see it, 365 has already been an experience of personal enlightenment, so why not incorporate this significant act of self love into it? AND, the timing is just right, since day two will be on Saturday, and FGR's group pick for that day is "Screams of Anguish". Lol...that should be an easy one.

I can't help it. I just can't help myself. Every time I take my dad and little man out walking I notice this dried up plant, and it calls to me. I didn't notice it when it was pretty and green. I think it must be prettier this way because it didn't catch my eye before, but now it demands my attention every time we pass by. I had to stop and capture it one more time.
The heart will show up.
How futile are our material needs, when thinking that someone just would appreciate a HEART.. and hearts are not for sale.
