Serpent d'océan - Ocean Snake - Huang Yong Ping, 2012
Serpent d'océan est une sculpture monumentale en aluminium, longue au total de 130 m. Elle représente le squelette d'un immense serpent de mer imaginaire, dont les vertèbres ondulent pour se terminer par une gueule ouverte.
L'œuvre est installée à la pointe du Nez-de-Chien, à Mindin, sur le territoire de la commune de Saint-Brevin-les-Pins en Loire-Atlantique, à la limite où l'estuaire de la Loire, plus long fleuve de France, rejoint l'océan Atlantique. Elle s'étale sur la zone d'estran : la queue du monstre est située à la limite des marées basses, sa tête à la limite des marées hautes. La sculpture est donc recouverte et découverte à chaque marée : si à marée basse il est possible d'en faire le tour à pied, seuls la tête et le haut des vertèbres dépassent à marée haute. Ocean Snake is a monumental aluminum sculpture, 130 m (427 ft) long in total. It represents the skeleton of a huge imaginary sea snake, whose vertebrae wave to end in an open mouth.
The work is installed at the tip of the Nez-de-chien, in Mindin, in the territory of the commune of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins in the Loire-Atlantique, at the limit where the estuary of the Loire, longest river in France, joins the Atlantic Ocean. It spreads over the foreshore area: the tail of the monster is located at the limit of low tides, its head at the limit of high tides. The sculpture is therefore covered and discovered at each tide: if at low tide it is possible to walk around it, only the head and top of the vertebrae exceed at high tide. It is destined to be gradually invaded by vegetation and marine fauna.
