55 participants gathered at the Stadium of Martyrs in Kinshasa, including campaigners from the Congolese Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions, the National Association of Mine Survivors (ANASDIV), ARASM (a Kinshasa peer support group), Handisport (a disabled sports team, of which Paralympian Dedeline Mibamba Kimbata is a member), and delegates from the national Mine Action focal point.
Disabled athletes competed over 400m races, with Miss Kiesse achieving a winning time of 2m17s. In second place was Miss Mabamba (2m28s), followed by Miss Ngietadidi (2m40s) in third place and Miss Yollande (2m59s) in fourth place.
The Victim Assistance focal point of the government, Louis Ibonge Numbi, awarded prizes to the athletes and said his team would continue to assist in all initiatives fostering the ratification of the CCM and the CRPD.
