The P and O Liner Canberra Leaving Yokohama Port.These were always the send offs that were received by any ocean going passenger liner leaving port.This happening was repeated everywhere you visited. The atmosphere was always electric.Streamers,balloons ,bands playing,people waving smiling crying all with thoughts of farewell.Then the last rope was released from shore and tugs would start to do their work and slowly the gap between the ships hull and the pier got wider and that was it.As you can see the lifeboats are positioned on a very low part of the ship. Were these lessons learned because of the Titanic tragedy
