Children practice their morning yoga routine at the top of a ghat, with their bodies framing the holy city of Varanasi and the Mother Ganges. Yoga is a spiritual discipline rooted in Hindu philosophy, and is often practiced to control the senses and ultimately, the mind. The goal of yoga is to achieve universal consciousness, or the unity and harmony of the mind and body. By the way, for those who are curious, this was not a staged shot. These kids were simply doing their yoga routine and they happen to be doing it right in front of my hotel that morning. The pigeons really added to the shot!
