Oh, boy! It's that time of year again when I pay tribute to the ever so popular Hallmark Christmas movies. Shallow depth of field, fake snow, unbelievable meet cutes, etc. This year's is "A Gift from Phil Pines."
Los Angeles hairstylist to the stars Mara Dela Yelo found herself in desperate need of a vacation, so she booked a room at the Snowball Lodge in Toboggan, Washington, high in the mountains. She didn't have the energy to go skiing, so she explored the village and its beautiful Christmas market.
She spotted a cute kiosk, "Pines' Gifts," filled with interesting ornaments from all over the world. One in particular caught her eye. A star-shaped paper ornament, called a parol. Then she noticed a very large orange and red version next to the stand. She asked the owner where they got it.
"Well, that has been a part of our kiosk for generations. It isn't for sale, just part of the decor. I think my grandfather obtained it overseas, some time ago. I could find some more information if you'd like."
"Yes! That would be great! Is Pines your name?"
"Phil Pines, yes. These are my gifts to sell to others at Christmas."
"Your name is Phil Pines? Phillip Pines?! That is where I am from! Manilla, in the Philippines! What you have there is a large parol, a traditional Filipino Christmas decoration, similar to this small one to be placed on a tree. We have one very much like it in my house back home."
"Very interesting," said Phil. "I would love to learn more about these parols. Care to join me for some hot cocoa and lovely conversation?"
"I would love to. I'm Mara. Let's find a place to warm up."

Another one of my "exploration" trips around the Spanish countryside. In the province of Soria I found this beautiful sea of blooming sunflowers surrounded by these wind turbines giving it an interesting contrast to the sight. Being a rural area the sky is very clear (Bortle class 2). At this location with the naked eye it is possible to see the galactic center with great detail. This is another place worth visiting if you ever come to Spain.
In the photograph you can clearly see Jupiter (center near the horizon), Saturn (around 30 degrees to the right) and the classic Andromeda galaxy (beside the wind turbine to the left)

BECAUSE we will be opening a new set of doors, which we have named The Design Firm Collection! Since the inception of this partnership, we have wanted to transition our business into a retail operation within the home & garden space of Second Life. What better way to accomplish this than to create our own home furnishings and accessories brand! Our brand will aim to deliver high-quality modern and contemporary pieces into Second Life, which our clients can utilize for years to come.
The Design Firm Collection showroom is located on The Loft & Aria sim, right across the parking lot from the Loft & Aria store! This '56 Poderosa comes with a stunning colorscheme and just enough horses under the hood to get it rolling. Those truly were the glory days of the automobile. The owner has lovingly named his car "Coraline". Figure that one out yourself.
This was a really fun build for me, having to make do with the limited repertoir of coral pieces. I even had to buy a bag of DOTS to get the hubcaps.

I've been dying to blog this house since forever. It's large and dare I say one of the more realistic floorplans I've seen yet. I count 3 rooms and 2 baths...though this is SL and you can definitely turn those rooms into whatever you like.
A library in the bathroom? A kitchen in the master bedroom? Why not!
