Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko is an endangered species found throughout Okinawa. This lizard is decreasing in numbers due to poaching, deforestation, and the threat of feral cats. The lizard is high valued in the illegal pet trade market and needs to protected.

 

Its important to pay attention to animals crossing the road during the night!

I saw this streaked fantail warbler (Cisticola juncidis) in the middle of the road. I took a few shots with the Iphone and then it flew away to safety.

Fighting pose - wide angl macro with the Iphone6s

while driving, I saw a blue rock thrush striking a praying mantis on the street. I pulled up closer and the bird flew away. The mantis stayed in its fighting stance for a cool wide angle macro shot.

Gymnodoris nigricolor in search of a goby fish.

This is a very small nudibranch (10mm in size)

Very hard to photograph -

They are rare to find and if you get to close to the fish it will retreat down into its home in the sand.

- - As of March 2018, The Pryers Keelback (Hebius pryeri) is considered a venomous snake found throughout the Ryukyu Islands. They are rear-fanged and require a strong long-term chewing style bite to inject the venom into the wound.

The mongoose (Herpestes javanicus) was introduced to Okinawa in 1910 in an attempt to control the population of venomous snakes and other pests. Like anything introduced it seems to take over and do more damage.

One of my strangest finds so far. Crabs with beach trash by Shawn Miller. I found a blueberry hermit crab tonight adapting with a lug nut cover. Found naturally using man made items.
