Norfolk Southern freight I4M is southbound over Amtrak's P&W Line of the Northeast Corridor at Chase MD on March 13, 2022. SD70ACE #1004 is handling the train solo. There is no DPU at mid-train or on the rear.

Simply love my Yashica D, which is capable of capturing fine detail sharply, as well as producing dreamy bokeh. To see a magnified view of the fine detail, click here.

I like the juxtapositions here...the contrast of values between the light and dark walls and the contrast of tactility between the hard metal camera and the soft flower.

I love contrasts like this.

I'm finding I really love still life work too. Especially on Polaroids. The way a Polaroid captures light is simply charming. It's so soft, so delicate. Very classic. It takes to window light quite nicely which is good since that's what I shoot my still lifes with.

Last shot on a roll which sat in my camera for months, a worthwhile wait.

One of the few necessary disruptions along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor is when the bridge across the Bush River has to be opened for boat traffic. Here on October 30, 2022, the final opening of the season has occurred to allow one boat through. The entire operation took an hour however the actual time opened was approximately five minutes. It's a lengthy and involved process that Amtrak would like to be rid of but it is required by the US Coast Guard.

Sunrise, Wednesday morning at 5.40am. Straight from the camera with only some tidying up of dust and spots. I really like this shot personally, the light, color and slightly abstract nature are pleasing to me. However, I think it could have been better by focusing maybe 3 feet further into the shot. Perhaps I'll reshoot it at a different time of the day and see how it looks. Answers on a postcard please!

One other technical detail, finally discovered how to do a linear scan with my 8800F. Basically one with no interference from the software so you are getting exactly what is on the negative. The details can be found here: www.colorneg.de/scangear.html?lang=en

Finished my roll of Acros 100. It took me a few weeks to get through it. I'd forgotten that I had taken a couple during the Sakura at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

Trees by the Lower Falls

Several weeks ago at Letchworth. As I remember, I started at Inspiration Point and hiked downriver along the rim trail to the Lower Falls overlook and back. There was too much low brush to get a good shot from the overlook itself, so I shifted over to where the intervening trees were more interesting.

The trails down to the lower rim and footbridge were closed. The ground was fairly clear but there was still too much ice and snow on the stone stairway. The section visible through the trees was a sheet of ice from the spray from the falls. It would have been treacherous even with Microspikes.

CSXT's L136 local is returning westbound through Lineboro, MD on September 5, 2024. The crew went east from Hanover, PA to Emory Grove to pickup interchange freight from the Maryland Midland Railway. Approximately 20 feet ahead of the locomotive is an old Western Maryland Railway sign marking the state border between Maryland and Pennsylvania.
