The xylophone (from Ancient Greek ξύλον (xúlon) 'wood', and φωνή (phōnḗ) 'sound, voice';[1][2] lit. 'sound of wood') is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars struck by mallets. Like the glockenspiel (which uses metal bars), the xylophone essentially consists of a set of tuned wooden keys arranged in the fashion of the keyboard of a piano. Each bar is an idiophone tuned to a pitch of a musical scale, whether pentatonic or heptatonic in the case of many African and Asian instruments, diatonic in many western children's instruments, or chromatic for orchestral use.
The term xylophone may be used generally, to include all such instruments such as the marimba, balafon and even the semantron.

This room is filled with musical instruments from all over the world. On the walls, we see string instruments from Japan, China, and Vietnam.
On the ground, there are drums and an African balafon (xylophone). Besides old pianos, we also discover a harpsichord (the red instrument).

Cette salle est remplie d'instruments de musique venant des 4 coins du monde. Sur les murs, on voit des instruments à cordes venant du Japon, de Chine , et du Vietnam.
Au sol, il y a des tambours et un balafon (xylophone) d'Afrique. Outre des anciens pianos, on découvre aussi aussi un clavecin (l'instrument rouge).

The metallophone is a percussion instrument. It looks like a xylophone, but consists of metal plates arranged horizontally around the perimeter of a wooden box. Sound is extracted in the same way as on a xylophone.

The campus of Vienna University of Economics and Business is an exemplary piece of contemporary architecture in Vienna. At the time I was there, the place felt deserted and only gusts of wind called the tunes. The space-like fluid architecture of LC by Zaha Hadid and flag singing in the wind imposed some otherworldly and utopian feeling to it.
In front of the silhouette of the Traunstein stands "La Communication", a boy communicating with his doppelgänger. The large figure with a xylophone on his back represents a creative person and artist in dialogue with his analytical, structuring side, symbolized by the small figure with the Lego brick.
"Moss people" series by Kim Simonsson. (the statue and figurines of the series are in green color) The Finnish artist takes us into the fantastic world of „Moss People“ – life-size, childlike creatures made of ceramic with a velvety surface, staged in a hyper-natural environment.

“Stone Xylophone”: I was commissioned to create one of Canada’s first interactive public sculptures, specifically designed for children with Autism. This was one of my most challenging and rewarding projects. It took months of research, simulation programs and direction by government and private agencies. In the end I realized how little I knew about the world of Autism. The resulting sculpture had many components, all inviting a connection to nature through primal activities.
Introducing a musical or sound component that had a vibrational quality was one of the components I wanted to have in the sculpture. Part of the research for the project included purchasing and modifying or taking inspiration from existing creations made of natural materials. This piece was created by Jim Doble in Union, Maine, USA. It was the inspiration for a metal vibration drum that was created for the sculpture. The resulting sounds were what I would consider tribal and universally appealing. When played, the vibrational results could be felt on the entire sculpture.

Recently we decided to go to Peachland British Columbia, a small town not far from home to walk along its beautiful waterfront. When we arrived there, it was like stepping back three months. Fake snow in the park and several adjoining stores and a restaurant were covered in Christmas decorations. A pilot for a series called "A Case For The Winemaker" was being filmed there and in a nearby winery. Hollywood spends a lot of money in this part of British Columbia.
