I keep my wires in this old suitcase: 1/4" instrument cables, 1/8" Eurorack jump cables, XLR cables, power strips, a few AC adapters, etc.

(Read the original post on Project Pedal here)
The last post, which ended up not going through via crappy EVDO connection, was a bit scrambled and "ehh". So, I think it's time for a "proper" post.
[Update: I just found out it did get through before I lost single. But it was still is a crapy post, and I already wrote this one... so some things get covered twice.]
I'm sorry for the lack of updates, but we've been jetting from mountain range to mountain rage, and have had little connection. Not sure if that's Sprint's fault, or if it would be just as bad with a Verizon network.
I'm in the van right now, listening to "Learning to Fly" off the iPod, we're heading back from Glacier Park towards Whitefish. "Why?" you ask: well, for a few unexpected reasons.
A) first off, we backed up the rental van into a good sized rock, and it almost took the bumper clean off the back. Which sucked. This on top of a shitty night's sleep in tents that didn't quite hold up in the downpour from hell. Okay, it wasn't quite *that* bad, but it was bad enough to wake up every hour with a new part of the bag being wet.
Seeing as there is no phone or cell connection at the base of the glaciers, we are heading back into town to take care of the whole insurance/rental situation. Fingers crossed that it works out okay.
B) I broke my bike frame... that's a different story for a different time, but it's extremely un-rideable. And the last bike shop for a while is back in Whitefish, there was a used bike shop near the school.
C) I feel a bit awkward about this "aspect" of the project, awkward in the sense that I don't like to talk about money. On one hand, I don't want to sound like a sympathy-case... and on the other, I don't want to pretend or hide the financial difficulties that exist in a low-budget project like Pedal. Or every low budget project for that matter.
But we are about 8 days away from being rock-bottom broke. Which can be a slight distraction when trying to stay focused on the task at hand. But, fear not, there is someone who has said they can fund the remainder of the trip. Yes, we are cutting it close... uncomfortably close, but we don't have much choice.
Some of you might be curious as to how someone can go from winning $25,000 to broke in three months time. Especially considering the budget on the site is only $9,000. Well, almost a full $10,000 of the 25k went to personal debts and expenses that needed to be taken care of. Then there is equipment that I never put into the budget because I was just not expecting to be able to make a film with anything but the dinky camera I already had. And to be honest, with only 9k, I'd probably be stuck without a crew.
But winning the Network2.tv video contest allowed me to make the project I really wanted to make, not the one I could just get by making. So, I was encouraged to buy a camera that matched the one 'The Black Sheep' were bringing, a Z1U. There's 5 grand. I purchased a cheap 12 foot crane, that was about $900. I bought a glidecam system, which was around $1,800. Four long-life batteries for filming long hours on the road. Camping gear. UV Filters. XLR cables. Headphones. $1,000 in microphones, $600 wind-jammer. $760 in miniDV tapes (60 hours). Shipping fees. I had to take a month off from work in order to squeeze all the last minute planning in, there's 3 months rent. 3 months utilities. A laptop for editing on the road. 3 round trip tickets from Belgium to LA. $2,500 to rent a van for two months. Wide angle lens for $350. My own personal plane ticket and rental car cost for visiting Larry & Jay before the trip. Food. More food. Gas... almost four times the amount originally budgeted because the van is overloaded and gets poor mpg, plus we have to drive back to LA when done. And, of course, there's always "et cetera". Now add in all the problems and extra money here and there. I won't even go into that.
Not to mention the thousands and thousands of dollars in equipment that the crew brought along. 16mm film stock. A fluid-head tripod. An army of SLR lens and filters. A 35 kit. You name it - that came loaded.
All in all, I'd say the budget it pushing the $200,000 area. So that's the dark side of the low budget project... it's fun stuff to tackle with no financial backing (sarcasm). Not to mention the fear of putting all this time, energy and money into something that, now that you've started, might not make see to the end. It's enough to make a person sick.
I have to finish this project. It's started - and there is no turning back. I don't know how - but there's no turning back now.
Whew. Okay, that felt good to get off my chest. And please, don't feel like I'm pressuring you for a handout. Like I said, someone has said they'd help us finish the project. It's just a part of the project that I've been meaning/wanting to share for a while. It never feels like the "right" time, so what the hell, right?
It's now 11:20 at night, Amanda has called the insurance people and they were great about it. We'll even be able to still get up at 5, like planned, and head back into Glacier to get a shot of the mountains against Lake McDonald.
Afterward we plan to follow Larry to the peak of Logan's Pass, it's closed after the top because a huge section of the 'Going to the Sun Road' was washed away by glacier run off (yay, global warming). But Larry, being the monster that he is, wants to go to the top and then turn around just to "get it under his belt". Love that guy.
We also ran into Galan, who reminds me a lot of Lyon. We ate breakfast this morning at the restaurant in Apgar and talked for 3 hours. Sadly, none of it was one tape, but he's great, we'll talk to him tomorrow before he heads too far north.
Other than all that - we plan on spending the next few days around the Glacier area, there's so much great stuff to get, and it's basically biker-central for all the cyclist. We're wanting to head back down the road and talk to 3 women we met a few days ago, I think they have a great perspective on their trip - it's rare to run into a women only group. And it shouldn't be.
Also, before I forget, I didn't have much time to go through footage while we were in Eureka, but I did dump a few random clips of Larry riding his bike (not the smoothest of shots we've taken, but I still like the look on Larry's face climbing up that hill).
And a very pretty long shot we took of a broken down house/cabin/pile-of-wood, there's cars and junk in the frame that, if I used it later, I'd snip out. But you get the idea.
We'd love to hear from you - see you on the other side (of Glacier Park).

These pictures were taken during filming for Project Pedal, a indie-film / documentary about the memory of a long distance bike ride.
We were on the road for 64 days, following a bicyclist from Anacortes, Washington to Bar Harbor, Maine. This project was inspired by a 55 day bike ride I took in 2001 from Michigan to the Golden Gate Bridge... I've put everything into this project... I still have a long ways to go.
The last few weeks I've had a lot of video assignments, so I upgraded my setup a little bit. A lot of people have been asking me what equipment I use, here's a list of the things I use most of the times.

GoPro Hero 3 rig in the making. Norbert Sport, Sennheiser shotguns with TASCAM 60D and Rotolight. So many pieces yet to obtain... XLR cables, extension arms, etc.. Haven't decided what to do about a monitor yet. Have looked at this field monitor but also like the iPad mini. Downside with the iPad mini is the wireless has about a 5-second delay. It does, however, have a great GoPro app for camera setup. I can also use it for framing a shot and positioning shotguns. The GoPro Hero3 will mount on top of the frame. I could use just two more inches width on the frame. The mics, camera and lighting will be an extremely tight fit. However, I might go ahead with the iPad mini as a field monitor during initial setup, and just record HD1080P on it and the GoPro at the same time but separately. It would be like having a backup audio and video source. Not in photo is the GoPro camera and the Manfrotto monopod which the frame will rest on. Here is some crazy GoPro footage I took right after opening the box: Spokane Approach, with raw audio and unstable mounting of camera. Speed was pushed 800% in iMovie 9, until short final. I love how the audio sounds like a Ferrari with a bad transmission.
This is how shakespear envisioned his legacy; having his work so incredibly saturated that you can find random copies of his plays, translated into easier to read books, tangled in XLR cables under smaller musical venues.

Are you suffering from acid reflux disease? Has it caused you too many nights of insomnia? Are you experiencing immense pain from the damage it has done to your esophagus? You can control acid reflux disease and the guide below can help you end your suffering.
You should drink when your meal concludes and not whilst in the process of eating. This can help you relieve the hungry feeling that you have. In addition, not drinking during meals will prevent your stomach from expanding as much. As a result, acid is not as likely to rise up, so your acid reflux disease symptoms will decrease.
Pregnant women sometimes suffer from acid reflux disease. The developing baby can push acid back into the esophagus. When pregnant it is a good idea to avoid trouble foods, and eat low fat foods to prevent problems. A woman should watch how she deals with acid reflux disease symptoms when pregnant and consult their doctor.
Stay away from clothing that is too restricting. Things like pantyhose, belts and waistbands should not be too tight. This adds more pressure around your stomach. This can cause significant reflux concerns Wear clothes that are looser around your middle and offer more comfortable.
To reduce the risk of acid reflux disease, lose those extra pounds. Obesity is capable of causing acid reflux disease. Losing around 10% of your current body weight can lessen your acid reflux disease symptoms greatly. Eat smaller portioned meals during the day to help your acid reflux disease.
Consume more water if you want to help your acid reflux disease symptoms. Increase your intake of water. When you drink more water, your body is hydrated sufficiently. This will also aid in the digestion of your food. Increased water consumption not only improves digestion, but it also decreases acid production.
The pain from acid reflux disease mimics the pain of a heart attack. If you are suffering from serious chest pain, don't ignore it. It could be a heart attack. Call for medical assistance, right away. Don't let yourself die in denial!
Do you know what it takes to terminate acid reflux disease suffering? Hopefully you feel more confident now to relieve your acid reflux disease pain and discomfort. Are you prepared to help your esophagus recover? Now that you have been privy to this great advice, you know what to do to help yourself feel better fast! www.prweb.com/releases/XLR-Cable/Quality-Microphone-Cable...
If you've had acid reflux previously, you're aware about how aggravating it might be. It puts a painful crimp in your life in numerous ways. However, there are several actions to take to quit acid reflux within its track. From the article below, you'll learn a few excellent selections for achieving this.
When you are a smoker, it can be high-a chance to throw out the cigarettes permanently. Smoking worsens acid reflux disease. Furthermore, it slows digestion and increases acid production from the stomach while decreasing the production of saliva. This will increase the risk for esophageal sphincter to weaken. That's good reasons to quit today.
There are actually certain foods that could trigger acid reflux in your bodies. Foods for example chocolate, deep fried foods, alcohol based drinks and caffeinated beverages can trigger acid reflux. Sometimes foods that happen to be acidic, for example citrus fruits or tomatoes, also can make things worse. However, triggers are somebody thing so you must read your own personal body just to exactly what is not helping you. Avoidance of this list can be your best option.
Smokers must look into quitting to obtain free of acid reflux. If you smoke, nicotine stimulates the production of stomach acid, exacerbating the trouble. But after it is a chance to stop smoking cigarettes, undertake it with a bit of help. Cold turkey puts the entire body under stress and that can certainly make your acid reflux problems worse. Instead, you must try and quit a little bit at one time.
Exercising as soon as you eat can harm you when you have acid reflux. If you exercise, the abs muscles can push food that's from the stomach up throughout the esophagus. This could lead to acid reflux. Wait a few hours prior to embark on any exercising.
Be sure your clothing is loose around your waist. This simply means stay away from tight belts, waistbands and pantyhose. These sorts of garments put pressure in your digestive area that you just don't need or want. Heartburn symptoms will soon be on his or her way. Instead, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes which are not too tight in your stomach.
You must lose a few pounds if you're overweight. When you carry quite a lot of extra weight with your middle, you will be quite likely going to affected by reflux. Simply because you can get stomach acid to be effective its distance to your esophagus. Acid reflux can even cause damage to your esophagus if you do not get a solution. You may achieve fat loss using a conscientious lifestyle plus a healthier procedure for eating.
Clearly, there is no reason allowing acid reflux to manipulate your way of life. With a bit of simple knowledge and energy by you, you possibly can make acid reflux a past problem. Take advantage of the advice you've learned in order to take control. www.prweb.com/releases/XLR-Cable/Quality-Microphone-Cable...

Try drinking in the middle meals as opposed to during them. This can be a wonderful way to handle hunger pains when you are more inclined to be thirsty than hungry. Furthermore, accomplishing this may help your stomach and definately will maintain the acid down.
Should you have a healthy weight, you happen to be more unlikely to be affected by acid reflux disease. The sphincter involving the stomach and esophagus could become relaxed when there is a lot of pressure into it, as an example from additional weight. As soon as you tone up, your sphincter will tighten and also the acid will remain put.
Foods abundant in fat are certainly not useful to you if you suffer from acid reflux disease. These could encourage acid to flow inside the wrong direction by sending incorrect messages for the esophageal sphincter. Furthermore, these kind of foods allow you to prone for excess weight. Those who are overweight struggle a lot more with acid reflux disease. Eat better and feel great!
Work with an additional pillow to maintain your head raised when you sleep. Unless you use a wedge, place a block of wood or even a few books below your mattress to boost the head. It is actually possible to find electronically adjustable beds also.
It might not be smart to exercise soon after eating. This may force acid to your esophagus, which may cause acid reflux disease. For that reason, you will need at the very least an hour or so between eating and training.
Avoid really restricting clothes. Waistbands, belts and pantyhose that cut you by 50 percent are certain to cause stomach problems. You will have added pressure in the stomach should you wear tight clothes. This may lead to heartburn and reflux symptoms. Consider comfortable clothes that do not put pressure on the stomach.

I've struggled for some time to create a place to compose music in my tiny home; limited space and budget have made it a challenge. I think the result is quite nice, however. The key thought was to prioritize activities and do the simplest possible thing to achieve activity level. Here were my top musical priorities:
1. Just make music. This meant connecting speakers (Yamaha) to the keyboard (Roland SD-700SX). 2 1/4" patch cables, 3 ordinary power cables, and a small plug multiplier. Easy.
2. Record MIDI. This meant adding a computer to the mix (Thinkpad X41 Tablet P-M 1.5GHz 1.5G RAM named "Quirky") , installing software (Ableton Live 7), and attaching the keyboard to the computer (via USB). Worked great.. However once I plugged the laptop into wall power the speakers got very noisy. This was because of a cheaply constructed third-party power supply - by replacing it with the official Thinkpad power supply the noise disappeared. (This would have been difficult to diagnose if I had put everything together all at once, I think.) One small innovation: flipping the screen around but keeping it at an angle, to serve as a kind of touchscreen music stand; reminds me of the Korg OASYS.
3. Record audio. This took some experimentation to get right. I felt compelled to test the tablet's native sound abilities even though I was pretty sure it wouldn't sound good. The tablet has a "mic in" which, sure enough, testing showed it to be of very poor quality for accepting audio from the keyboard (primarily a strange warble). So I purchased an MBox (M-Audio Fast Track Pro) and attached it to the computer (USB), and connected the keyboard (2 XLR cables). Now it sounds very good. I was glad to see that a modest computer can do well at audio. I thought it would.
4. Playing virtual instruments. Now I was getting frisky - it was straightforward to get this working (just have to setup MIDI correctly and remember to 'arm' recording in Live). However at this stage I decided to "break" the solution to #2 by removing the direct keyboard USB/MIDI and using the MBox for MIDI. Required 2 MIDI cables and eliminated 1 USB cable. The benefit is that the tablet has fewer cables going into it.
5. Applying virtual effects. Again, works well and sounds great. Surprisingly low latency (I can just barely hear it).
6. Monitoring PC audio. Headphones in the MBox work great. Using speakers turned out to be surprisingly complicated. First, I was loath to abandon the simple solution to #1. I realized that if I plugged the speakers into the MBox I wouldn't be able to "just play" without a computer attached, which from experience I know I don't like being tethered to a PC to make music. Luckily the MBox can be powered separately, although it required the purchase of a wall wart. I also needed a couple of extra cables (XLR) - easily fixed (I do wish the MBox had 1/4" inputs as well as XLR inputs, though). One other annoyance: the MBox pops, badly, when it's turned off with speakers still attached. This is not as much of an issue when the MBox is seperately powered, as unplugging the computer no longer causes the MBox to power down. (Essentially it turns out the MBox is serving as a simple line mixer for keyboard and pc audio.)
For a finishing touch, I draped the (semi soft) travel case over and behind the keyboard. This is not only a great place to store a very bulky item, but it also serves to cushion the tablet and protect the keyboard. I also plugged everything into a power strip so the whole shebang can be turned on and off with one switch (which saves power and avoids pops). I sort of miss using the Roland's power switch, though - it's a really nice switch. Very wide and solid and with a pleasant curve to it.
I actually believe there is a market for a simple standalone MIDI sequencer, even if this solution works for me. To have a small hand-held device that I could attach to the keyboard, play into, then take to a computer for editing might be quite nice, especially if you are prone to long solo jamming, like I am.
Does acid reflux disease manage your life? Desire to eliminate your acid reflux disease once and for all? Do you wish to feel great minus the pain using this condition? You ought to read on to learn what you can do to remove your acid reflux disease once and for all.
Food consumption is actually a main trigger of acid reflux disease. Many individuals eat a lot of food rapidly. Eating in this way is merely planning to worsen your symptoms. Once you feel full, it is actually time and energy to stop the meal. Additionally, tend not to eat as quickly at meal time. Chew each bite fully and set your fork down frequently.
Drink between each meal as opposed to with all the meal. This will help manage hunger, because it is likely that you are currently more thirsty than you happen to be hungry. Once you drink each day, your stomach won't get as upset once you do eat and acid won't come back into the esophagus.
Should you aren't overweight, your GERD might go away. When you find yourself overweight, the esophageal sphincter sometimes opens beneath the pressure in the excess fat. Once you shed those extra few pounds you will notice that this opening tightens up and doesn't enable the acid creep to your stomach.
Slippery elm, when ingested as being a supplement, may help thicken mucous inside your stomach and minimize erosion in the stomach lining. The excess mucous provides protection from acid. Make an effort to drink mostly in the middle meals if you suffer from acid reflux disease. Should you drink a lot of at meals, your stomach will end up too full. This may cause excessive pressure in the esophageal sphincter. Pressure causes the valuables in your stomach to arrive at the esophagus and damage it's lining.

This isn't meant to be an 'arty' shot, just a shot of what our desks look like during an early rehearsal.
We (the Dalriada Sound Team) manage the audio for all the school's productions (theatrical or otherwise) and thus we have some pretty serious kit.
You can see one of our desks (it was an early rehearsal, so we didn't have the full kit out), four Sennheiser high-bandwidth receiver units for our shiny Sennheiser bodypacks on the right, four on the left, three older receivers, a professional quality buffered CD and DVD audio player and tonnes of jack-to-jack and XLR cables. To the right there's some of the older body packs on a separate table and back on the main table, there's loads of batteries, a multimeter and a bodypack I was working on. Also, there's my bottle of Sprite Zero ( ;-) ) and to the left, two sets of monitor headphones.
On the left is Matthew and on the right is Andy.

One of a set of three photos of my current go-to field recording setup.
Because I've been doing Drop & Recover style recording (thanks to The Field Recordist for the proper term), I've been trying to make my setup as compact and self-contained as possible. This can be stuck on a tripod, on top of a light stand, flipped upside-down inside a tripod and covered with rain protection, whatever.
It consists of four parts:
The microphones are contained in my DIY SASS. That's the wooden box on top.
The microphone array is isolated from everything else by an off-the-shelf anti-vibration mount from a drone. (I bought the mount by itself. I still don't own a multirotor.) I had to add a 1/4"-20 socket at the bottom, and I made a big flat thumbscrew out of aluminum for attaching the microphones.
That is, in turn, attached to my Tascam DR-70D field recorder. It's really designed for DSLR filmmaking, so it's got a 1/4"-20 socket on the bottom and a 1/4"-20 mount on the top. That makes setups like this a snap.
The recorder and mics are connected electrically with two XLR cables. I wanted the floppiest, least-vibrationally-coupling cables I could get so I rolled my own using Neutrik connectors and Mogami cable.
The anti-vibration mount does a better job than I'd expected at isolating the mics from taps on the tripod legs from grass, nearby bushes, etc.
