Christine Lavin - Peekskill Homecoming Concert November 17
(Special guest opener: Dean Friedman)
Christine Lavin will perform a homecoming concert at Dramatic Hall, in Pittsburg, on November 17 at 8 PM.
Dramatic Hall is located in the Peekskill Central Market, at 900 Main Street, in Peekskill.
Opening is Dean Friedman, who also has local roots.
Admission is $35.
The ticket buy link is www.eventbrite.com/e/christine-lavin-peekskill-homecoming....
For more info, please call: 914-736-3600.
Born and bred in Peekskill, Christine Lavin is a critically-acclaimed and beloved singer/songwriter. Her funny and poignant songwriting, and engaging performances have endeared her to lovers of folk music everywhere.
She and her eight brothers and sisters went to Assumption for elementary school. As they continued through the local Parochial School system, Christine chose Public school, Drum Hill Junior High, and then Peekskill High School. There her English teacher, Mrs. Johnson encouraged her to write. Christine also twirled baton in Marching Band; she remembers Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy on the reviewing stand for a celebratory parade for a school game. “I was a fan of the Kennedys, even though we were in the middle of a routine as we marched by, I stopped twirling for a few seconds and waved like crazy to RFK and he waved back!” With that kind of encouragement, Ms. Lavin still impresses her audiences with great baton moves!
Ms.Lavin looks forward to reconnecting with her old and new friends. “We didn’t have a yearbook,” she laughs! I think that’s why I spend so much time autographing CDs after my shows—it's the high school yearbook I never got to sign!”
A true do-it-yourself success story, Lavin has 16 solo albums, plus a variety of collaborations with other artist. Some of her most known hits are: “Cold Pizza For Breakfast,” “Good thing He Can’t Read My Mind,” “Sensitive New Age Guys.” Christine’s most recent album is called “Happydance Of The Xenophobe.”
Fellow singer Janis Ian has referred to Christine as “the unsung heroine of the latter-day folk movement.”
Opening is area resident Dean Friedman, who was label mates with Christine on Lifelong Records. Dean is marking the 40th Anniversary of the 1977 release of his top-20 hit, “Ariel.” Some of his other hits are “Lucky Stars,” “Lydia,” and “McDonald’s Girl,” “which was recently used in a McDonald’s commercial! Dean’s latest studio album is “12 Songs.”
I don't usually do statement photography. But on my first trip to Israel, we visited what used to be a battlefield, complete with bunkers and underground passages and even a broken down tank or two. Walking around a bunker, I found this very brightly painted, a symbol we all recognize. In today's times, with hateful speech and actions being spewed all around the world, we need to be better than the hate. We need to realize that we all have far more in common than we realize. We're all people, and the vast majority of all peoples are good people. Just because someone isn't exactly like you don't mean they're any lesser. That goes for skin pigments, religious choices, gender or gender-choices. We all bleed red blood, we all cry saline tears, we all have hopes and dreams and fears and it's time to come together when xenophobes, Islamiphobes, racists, anti-Semites, and others are trying their hardest to tear us apart.
Is it any wonder this dog's nick name is Devil Dog? Actually he only eats strangers who wander into HIS yard. :o)
For the October ('06) Scavenger Hunt #4 (Hell Hound) - in glorious black and white as an homage to bad horror films.
Feb. 2008: Dante is afraid of strangers, especially those of the male persuasion and small children! He was probably abused as a puppy. The vet says he suffers from "fear aggression". He has nipped these people: the first vet we took him to, my father, a small child and my next door neighbor. He actually bit my brother, fortunately Dante clamped onto his left wrist leaving him with lacerations and a broken watch band, but no serious injury.

From 20 November 2007, the government of Japan has branded all foreigners (with a few specific exceptions) as potential terrorists.
My home is in Japan, my business is in Japan, I pay tax in Japan, I submit my personal details in order to be eligible for a visa (for which I must also pay, as well as an additional fee if I wish to leave and re-enter the country). I carry a foreigners' ID card with at all times, and failure to produce it when asked by the police can result in my arrest.
Now I am to be fingerprinted, like a common criminal. Except of course that I haven't done anything. And the same will happen to you if you visit Japan.
At first the Japanese government said it was to catch terrorists. You could point out that it won't, but you could also just ask them why they're not fingerprinting Japanese citizens. The only terrorism Japan has suffered has been perpetrated by Japanese citizens, after all.
Then they said it was to catch criminals. But, again, they're not fingerprinting Japanese citizens. Aren't criminals also Japanese?
So it's basically about illegal immigration. Japan has a miniscule illegal immigration problem. Both the UK and France (half the size of Japan, population-wise) estimate they have nearly half a million illegal immigrants. Japan reckons on 10,000.
So they're spending billions of tax-payers' yen to crack this tiny nut.
And offend the dignity of every foreign resident of and visitor to Japan.
Tract originates from Re-entry Japan.

Wars against the Jews: Excerpt taken from Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew
Throughout history, many rulers, empires and nations have oppressed their Jewish populations or sought to eliminate them entirely. Methods employed ranged from expulsion to outright genocide; within nations, often the threat of these extreme methods was sufficient to silence dissent. The history of antisemitism includes the First Crusade which resulted in the massacre of Jews; the Spanish Inquisition (led by Torquemada) and the Portuguese Inquisition, with their persecution and Auto de fé against the New Christians and Marrano Jews; the Bohdan Chmielnicki Cossack massacres in Ukraine; the Pogroms backed by the Russian Tsars; as well as expulsions from Spain, Portugal, England, France, Germany, and other countries in which the Jews had settled. The persecution reached a peak in Adolf Hitler's Final Solution, which led to the Holocaust and the slaughter of approximately 6 million Jews from 1942 to 1945.

In the tradition of Bill Maher's "New Rules," New Rule: If the publishers of wildflower books are going to continue to leave out common invasive species then they have to admit that they hate naturalist. This flower is not called the "Star-of-Bethlehem" because it is a native New Yorker but it came here to make it on the big stage and the cranky old xenophobes are not going to change that through denial.

x is for xylophone, Xanadu, and xenophobe
I thought x was going to be tough! Do you know how many x-words there actually are? My dictionary lists 60 and a bunch of those are suffixes and prefixes, so the pickings are slim.
Anyhow, it was surprisingly easy for me today. Thanks to the little man in my life. All I had to do was ask my son if I could play with his toys?
He replied, "Sure, which one do you want?"
So, of course I took the tiny xylophone, one x down! The second one comes easy too, and for it, I'm eternally grateful! My son and my wife, the three of us together, we make our little Xanadu wherever we go, and let me tell you it's a very real place!
And finally, xenophobe. Well, I'll leave that one alone. It doesn't deserve any discussion.
TOTW: Gratitude

To paraphrase a comment I saw speaking about Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s ‘defense’ of her inexplicable actions concerning her so-called “IT staffer” - “Ethnic and religious profiling. Bigotry. Racism. All overplayed words the Left throws out like beads at a Mardi Gras parade.”.
In other words, her first defense is apparently going to be, as it always is, that anyone attacking her is a racist, profiling bigoted sonofabitch.
Are we supposed to be shocked? Ashamed of ourselves? Are we supposed to defend ourselves against the charges that we are only investigating her and her poor IT staffer because he’s a Pakistani? Xenophobes!!
“What difference at this point, does it make” that he Hillary-ized hard drives and did his best to cover his tracks before he left? I mean.. Who doesn’t eliminate all traces of their business before going out of the country?
I just hope he doesn't get Hillary'ed in jail before he can be questioned..
Down close to 21st and Broadway (an area that is known for gang violence and discord), this "gang writing" was done - and then another gang wrote over it to show it's hate for the first. My entry for Xenophobe for this months msh.

Built in 1902, this Renaissance Revival-style building was constructed to house the First National Bank of Latonia, and was the longtime historical home of the Latonia Post Office during the early-to-mid 20th Century.
The building was also the home of Charles Bernard Schoborg’s cobbler shop in the early 20th Century, where a listening device was planted and private conversations between several native-born American citizens of German ancestry, Charles Bernard Schoborg, Matt Felton, Herman Rawe, Charles Wagner, J. C. Masten, Johannes H. Kruse, and Henry Feltman, were spied on by members of the Citizens Patriotic League in 1918, leading to the arrest of the innocent men on charges of sedition, and all seven were sent to prison on trumped-up charged and flimsy evidence, though were later pardoned once the anti-German hysteria had died down. The perpetrators of this injustice, including ringleaders Stephen Blakely and Harvey Myers, were never held accountable for their actions, even though it ruined the lives of all men accused of sedition, and the perpetrators, whom were involved in many criminal acts of violence, terror, and intimidation against innocent citizens of German ancestry during the time period, never had the community stand up against them. The community was too cowardly to stand up to this mob of thuggish ultra-nationalist xenophobes, despite the targeting of three prominent local German citizens, whom had helped build Latonia into a thriving early 20th Century commercial and residential community, and seemed to want to forget about the whole incident after the fact, even after the true colors and true character of these people had become known.
The building features a hipped roof, cornice with festoons, red brick exterior, flemish gables, gothic and roman arched window openings, replacement windows, quoin trim at the second-story windows, stone piers at the base with thin arches above, an octagonal corner turret with a convexly caved roof, flanked by two clocks dating to the period in which the building was a bank, hipped dormers, stone belt coursing at the sill line of the second-story windows, stone window trim, multiple commercial spaces on the first floor, and apartments on the second floor.
The building was modified with renovations in the 1950s, covering the original base cladding with aluminum siding, and then in the 1980s, with the restoration of the stone piers and creation of the present stucco arches above. The building was used as a bank was home to the First National Bank of Latonia until it merged with the First National Bank of Covington in 1963, after which it became a branch of the First National Bank of Covington, and operated as a bank branch location, becoming a branch of the People’s Liberty Bank during the 1980s, which eventually closed this branch in favor of a location with more parking and a drive-through teller window, and the bank itself being merged with a larger bank in the time since then.
The building is a contributing structure in the Ritte’s Corner Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Die big tents are completely overcrowed. Most of the people sleep in camping tents, donated by private people. After rain the area is going to be a mud landscape. In the night the people try to get warm by making fire with wood, collected in the near forests.

Is The Party's Over? .....I'm a Republican, many assume otherwise. If the GOP does not get it's shite together, it will be the end of the Party. Fools like ManBaby Trump must be driven out. This obnoxious little prick is a laughing stock. The jokes over, we need a statesman. My GOP is worth defending, but we need to expunge the racist, sexist, xenophobes and those who believe compromise and negotiation a character flaw. The United States is still a land of opportunity. Border Security is important "The Wall" is useless as security, it is a monument to hate.
