This nice river is situated at the border between the Netherlands and Germany. At the side I'm standing we're in Kerkrade (The Netherlands) and at the other side is Herzogenrath / Germany. As the nature is untouched for the most part in the last years, it becomes more and more a habitat to birds, butterflies and other animals, that have become rare in the years before.
The Worm (German: Wurm) is a small river or creek at the border between Germany and the Netherlands. This shot is a long exposure of 50" and was taken from the Dutch side.
Ganz so emotional war die Situation dann doch nicht. Der Jungstar wartet mit aufgerissenem Schnabel auf seinen Wurm, den das Elternteil hoffentlich mitgebracht hat.

The situation was not quite so emotional after all. The juvenile starling waits with its beak open for its worm, which the parent hopefully brought with it.
De voor DB Cargo rijdende vectron 193 366 ( voorzien van de fraaie ‘Einziganders’-bestickering ) werd op 6 maart 2022 ingezet voor het rijden van de Land Rover-autotrein vanuit Bochum (D) via Aachen (D) naar Antwerpen (B) en passeert hier in de laatste zonnestralen het tussen Erkelenz (D) en Geilenkirchen (D) gelegen Würm (D).

Las cataratas del Rin (en alemán: Rheinfall) son el mayor salto de agua en la Europa central y se encuentran en el curso del Alto Rin, entre los municipios de Neuhausen am Rheinfall y Laufen-Uhwiesen, cerca de la ciudad de Schaffhausen, en el norte de Suiza, entre los cantones de Zurich y Schaffhausen. Tienen 150 metros de anchura y 23 m de altura. En los meses de invierno, el caudal medio es de 250 m³/s, mientras que en el verano, el caudal medio es de 700 m³/s. El caudal más alto jamás medido fue 1.250 m³/s en 1965, y el más bajo, 95 m³/s en 1921.
Los únicos peces que pueden remontar las cataratas son las anguilas, capaces de avanzar serpenteando a lo largo de las rocas.
Las Cataratas del Rin se formaron en la última era glacial, hace entre 14.000 y 17.000 años, por rocas resistentes a la erosión del estrechamiento del cauce. Los avances de la primera glaciación crearon las formas terrestres actuales hace aproximadamente 500.000 años. Hasta el final de la Glaciación illinoiense hace aproximadamente 132.000 años, el Rin discurría hacia el oeste desde Schaffhausen pasado Klettgau. Este primer cauce fue cubierto más tarde con grava.
Hace unos 132.000 años el curso del río cambió hacia el sur en Schaffhausen y formó un nuevo canal, que también se llenó de grava. Parte del actual Rin incluye este antiguo cauce.
Durante la glaciación Würm, el Rin fue empujado hacia el sur a su curso actual, en un duro lecho de piedra caliza del Jurásico Superior. Como el río discurría tanto sobre la dura piedra caliza como sobre la fácilmente erosionable grava de glaciaciones anteriores, el salto de agua actual se formó hace entre 14.000 y 17.000 años. La Rheinfallfelsen, una gran roca, es el remanente de la roca caliza original que flanqueaba el canal anterior. La roca se ha erosionado muy poco en los últimos años debido a que el Rin no transporta demasiado sedimento, ya que fluye suavemente por el rebosamiento del cercano Lago de Constanza.

Weil der Stadt liegt 23 km westlich von Stuttgart, 20 km südöstlich von Pforzheim und 30 km nordwestlich von Tübingen im Heckengäu, einer Übergangslandschaft zwischen Neckarraum und Nordschwarzwald. Die Stadtgemarkung wird von Südosten nach Nordwesten von der Würm durchflossen, an deren Ufern vier der fünf Stadtteile der Stadt (alle bis auf Münklingen) liegen.
Die erste Stadtbefestigung von Weil der Stadt stammt aus der Zeit um 1220/40 und umschloss den staufischen Stadtkern. Dieser Mauerzug verlief annähernd rechteckig mit abgerundeten Ecken und verfügte über vier Stadttore, die an den Hauptstraßen lagen. Im Laufe des 14./15. Jh. wurden die beiden Vorstädte (Renninger-Vorstadt im Osten und Furter Vorstadt im Süden) angelegt und ebenfalls mit einer Befestigung umgeben. Neben erhaltenen Stadtmauerresten (teilweise mit Wehrgang), zählt der Stadtgraben, das Judentor sowie die vier Stadtmauertürme (Storchenturm, Roter Turm, Sailerturm und Rabenturm) zum erhaltenen Baubestand
A short ride along the Würm to visit friends for a toast to the New Year. We sat in their garden and at 1°C we didn't stay long!
Cold days forecast for the coming two weeks. I just might not cycle until the weather gets more friendly.
Dusk on the Würm - It was a bright sunny day, but it didn't warm up and with temperatures hovering around 0°C, even bits of snow didn't melt. All lovely to look at though.
It hardly got above freezing today and I didn't ride far. Still I found a spot on the Würm that I hadn't noticed before.
The wire around some of the tree trunks is to protect them from beavers.
Blustery day with snow flurries but a short ride felt good. Here is a bridge over the Würm that I've shown a couple of times now.
